🤩STAR ⭐️S🌟💫🌠☄️🔯✴️✡️☪️🔭😳
Etymology for the word "star" in Europe [OC] [2000 x 1650 ...
The English word "star" evolved from Old English "steorra," which comes from the Proto-Germanic *sternan-. Ultimately, it traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂stḗr, meaning "star," and is distantly related to the idea of "burning". This root is shared with many other languages, creating cognates like Latin "stella" and Greek "astḗr".
Proto-Germanic to Old English: The path to the modern English word began with the Proto-Germanic *sternan-, which became the Old English word "steorra".
Proto-Indo-European root: The Proto-Germanic word comes from the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂stḗr, which also means "star".
Possible deeper meaning: Some etymologists propose that the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂stḗr is a derivative of the root *h₂eh₁s- ("to burn"), suggesting the original meaning of "star" was "the thing that burns".
Cognates: This root is the source of many words across different languages, such as:
Greek: astḗr
Latin: stella
Sanskrit: stṛ

Drill music originated in the South Side of Chicago in the early 2010s. New York City later developed its own distinct "Brooklyn drill" scene, heavily influenced by the sound of UK drill, which itself was an evolution of the original Chicago style.
Chicago Origin
Timeframe: Early 2010s.
Characteristics: Chicago drill is a gritty offshoot of trap music, known for its dark atmosphere, slow tempos, heavy 808s, and raw, confrontational lyrics that chronicle the realities of street life and gang violence.
Key Pioneers: Rapper Pac Man is credited with coining the term "drill" with his 2010 single "It's a Drill". The genre gained national attention in 2012 with artists like Chief Keef (specifically his hit "I Don't Like"), Lil Durk, King Louie, Lil Reese, and producer Young Chop.
Mainstream Attention: Mainstream artists like Kanye West and Drake collaborated with Chicago drill artists, bringing the sound to a broader audience in the mid-2010s.

New York County (e.g., Manhattan is New York County, Brooklyn is Kings County), 🦝
Why is NYC split into counties? : r/geography
The term "borough" is used instead of "city" in places like New York City to reflect a specific administrative structure established during a consolidation. Instead of a single city, the term "borough" defines a constituent part of the city that retains a degree of local government and is often coextensive with a county-level division. This structure was implemented to manage a newly consolidated entity, with each borough having its own local identity and government functions.
Administrative and historical reasons
Consolidation: The five boroughs of New York City were created in 1898 when the city was consolidated from several smaller municipalities. The term "borough" was used to describe these constituent parts of the new, larger city.
Local government: Each borough is a formal subdivision of the city, representing a more structured division than a neighborhood. They have their own local governments or councils responsible for certain functions.
County-level division: The five boroughs are each coextensive with a New York County (e.g., Manhattan is New York County, Brooklyn is Kings County), but they operate under the borough structure with limited powers, unlike traditional counties.
Flexibility in usage: The term "borough" can also be a type of municipality that is self-governing, similar to a town or village, as seen in states like Pennsylvania or Alaska. In the case of New York City, the term is used for the sub-units of the larger city.

Word up, know what I'm sayin"?
(Cash Rules Everything Around Me, C.R.E.A.M. get)

C.R.E.A.M." is an iconic song by the Wu-Tang Clan, released in 1994, where the acronym stands for "Cash Rules Everything Around Me".
The phrase and the song offer a raw, autobiographical commentary on the realities of poverty, the drug trade, and the constant struggle for financial survival in the Staten Island projects where the group grew up. The message is not a materialistic endorsement of wealth, but a stark observation that in their environment, money dictates every aspect of life, decision, and survival.
Key Meanings:
"Cream" as Slang for Money: The word "cream" was already a slang term for money used in the group's neighborhood before the song was made.
The Acronym's Origin: The full acronym "Cash Rules Everything Around Me" was coined by a friend of Method Man's named Raider Ruckus, who broke down the slang term "cream" into this powerful phrase.
A Story of Struggle: The verses by Raekwon and Inspectah Deck detail their personal experiences with hardship: Raekwon describes growing up with a heroin-addicted father and getting arrested while trying to make money, while Inspectah Deck reflects on his path from a "delinquent teen to juvenile offender".
The Deeper Message: The song highlights the desperation that forces people to put their life and freedom on the line just to make ends meet, whether through legal work or illicit activities like selling drugs (which "cream" also sometimes referred to). It serves as a critique of a capitalist system that renders life unlivable for those in poverty.
The enduring line "Cash rules everything around me, C.R.E.A.M., get the money, dollar, dollar bill, y'all" has become one of hip-hop's most famous hooks, widely referenced in pop culture as a testament to the universal power and pressure of money.

Rapper and Actor Method Man is a huge comic geek. He even presents ...
Method Man was nicknamed by RZA after the 1979 martial arts film The Fearless Young Boxer, which was released in the US as Method Man. Additionally, the name "Method" was also local slang for ma*****na at the time, which the rapper openly used, adding a layer of double meaning to the nickname.
Film inspiration: The name comes directly from the 1979 film that was also known as Method Man.
Slang inspiration: The word "method" was a known slang term for ma*****na, a substance the rapper was known to use.
RZA's role: It was RZA, the producer for the Wu-Tang Clan, who gave him the name, connecting the rapper to both the film and the slang term.
