🚨 Breaking Update from DRC
A government plane carrying DRC Minerals Minister Louis Watum Kabamba ran off the runway while landing at Kolwezi Airport earlier today (Monday).
According to local reports, the aircraft went beyond the end of the runway, slid off the paved surface, and the rear part of the plane caught fire. Everyone on board was evacuated immediately.
The minister’s team confirmed that all passengers — around 20 people in the delegation — got out safely with no injuries reported. Photos and videos now circulating online show flames coming from the tail area while emergency crews worked to put out the fire.
Some posts on social media are saying it was an Embraer regional jet, but authorities haven’t officially confirmed the aircraft type or the airline/operator yet.
Investigators are now looking into what caused the runway overrun, and no official statement has been released by DRC aviation authorities so far.
Thankfully everyone is safe 🙏 Please leave all your belongings when exiting an aircraft in an event like this. Your life is more important than your stuff.
