Born on December 6th 1971, had a boy named Ryan White lived, he would be 51 years old today. Ryan was diagnosed with AIDS at age 13 while living in Kokomo, Indiana following a blood transfusion...he was given just six months to live. When he tried to return to school, he was barred from the classroom and was forced to fight AIDS-related discrimination in his small Indiana community. Along side his mother Jeanne White Ginder, Ryan White and his allies rallied for his right to attend school gaining national attention and in doing so, he became the face of public education in what would become the largest public health tragedy of the 20th century. Today, AIDS and HIV infection is a global pandemic spanning 41 years and it has stolen the lives of over 40 million people world wide....It was estimated that by the close of 2021 that over 43.8 million people were living with the virus. Surprising his doctors, Ryan White lived five years longer than predicted. He died in April 1990, just one month before his high school graduation and before he could witness the United States Congress pass legislation bearing his name; The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act. His brave fight would result in countless people infected with HIV having access to medication and treatment that they would have never been able to afford otherwise... lengthening their life expectancy and improving the quality of their lives in ways no one could have EVER imagined. To Ryan Wayne White our community owes a debt of gratitude! Happy Birthday young man...You done good! ❤

However, I think that now, after more than 30 years have passed since the regaining of Lithuania's independence, it is time for Lithuanians to start coming to terms with their dark part of history. My exhibition carries the message: let's live together. Acknowledge what you have done, because we cannot change the past, but we can influence the future. And that's exactly what I tend to encourage, rather than point the finger and blame," says the photographer. One of the heroes of my photo series said: "Go and show my photo in Lithuania, because many people don't care. I was in Germany, I was in Austria - they all ask for forgiveness, show that they are sorry. And the Lithuanians don't care." However, I can say for myself that the Lithuanians I met here do care," M. Shubitz teaches.
