Blackfriars Media

Blackfriars Media A team of artists dedicated to producing first-class documentary and narrative films that explore and the drama and the mystery of God and man.

Blackfriar Films is a dedicated team committed to producing first-class films that explore and celebrate the drama and the mystery of the human person. We are based in New York City. The honest and candid portrayal of human existence is a principle of our craft and central to our thinking. As much of our content is focused on questions that might be called “spiritual” in nature, we take very seriously Flannery O’Connor’s observation that “It is when the individual’s faith is weak, not when it is strong, that he will be afraid of an honest… representation of life.” Our creed is very simple. We believe that, insofar as our productions are technical endeavors, they should be competitive with the best of current commercial media. We believe that, insofar as our productions are explorations of the religious, the supernatural, or the moral, they should be faithful to and custodians of the Truth.

"In word and deed he was always a man of the Gospel. During the day no one enjoyed the companionship of his brethren or the friends met on a journey, no one was gayer than he. But at night no one kept watch so assiduously and prayed so fervently in every way. . .He often wept copiously in the daytime, when he celebrated Mass, which he did frequently, nearly every day; during the night, in his unceasing vigils. . ."

"Who will ever come near to the great goodness of this man? We can only wonder at him, and judge the softness of our own age by his fortitude. . .Let us follow, my dear brothers, the steps of our father as far as we can, and thank God who has given us such a superb leader on the road we must travel; and may God kindle the light and warmth of his holy life once again in us!" — Blessed Jordan of Saxony on the life of Saint Dominic

Fr. Lacordaire traveled to Ars to meet the holy Curé. The saint promised to pray for the restoration of the Friars Preachers after its suppression during the French Revolution.
