Review: Spike Lee’s ‘Chi-Raq,’ a Barbed Takedown of Gang Wars, With S*x as the Weapon

Spike Lee's “Chi-Raq” opens at theaters today, and is inspired by the Greek drama “Lysistrata,” in which women in the fifth century B.C. banded together to withhold s*x in order to force their men to end a war. The New York Times calls the film "urgent, surreal, furious, funny and wildly messy.. an improbable triumph."

Set in contemporary Chicago, this film is inspired by Aristophanes’ “Lysistrata,” in which women organize a s*x strike to force men to end the bloodshed.

The small rocky island that’s home to the Inn at Cuckold’s Lighthouse may not be far off the coast of Maine’s Boothbay Harbor, but arriving there feels a bit like abandoning…

D. T. Max profiles Hans Ulrich Obrist, of London’s Serpentine Gallery. He “seems less to stand atop the art world than to race around, up, over, and through it.”
