Da Capo to Publish Jennifer Finch’s Memoir, SHOOTING UP AND MAKING OUT

Da Capo, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, will publish SHOOTING UP AND MAKING OUT: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7 by Jennifer Finch with Jeff Alulis on January 19, 2027.

Completed just before Finch’s death on July 18, 2026, the memoir tells the extraordinary story of the groundbreaking L7 bassist, photographer, recovering addict, activist, and beloved pillar of Los Angeles’ creative community—in her own words.

From discovering LA’s hardcore punk scene at twelve and playing in an early band with Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland to experiencing L7’s rise amid the grunge phenomenon, Finch lived at the center of a transformative era in music. Her story extends far beyond the stage, chronicling addiction and sobriety, friendship and devastating loss, photography, advocacy, creativity, and ultimately, reinvention.

“Da Capo is honored to have a part in Jennifer Finch’s legacy with the publication of Shooting Up and Making Out,” said Ben Schafer, Executive Editor, Da Capo. He describes the memoir as “as real as it gets, suffused with hard-earned insight into the human condition, and shot through with tender compassion.”
