I’m trying to decide what direction to take with my kitchen cabinets, and I would love some advice! These oak cabinets are about 30 years old, but they are still in fantastic condition. They’re solid, have held up incredibly well, and I really don’t want to replace them just because I’m ready for a change.

I’m debating between staining the cabinets a different color or having them painted. I’m curious whether a new stain could give the existing oak a completely different look while still allowing some of the beautiful wood grain and character to show through, or if painting would create a cleaner, more updated appearance.

I also want to make sure whatever I choose works with the existing countertops, flooring, stainless-steel appliances, and the overall layout of the kitchen. I don’t want to make a decision that looks great on its own but ends up fighting with everything else in the room.

I’m definitely going to hire a professional to do the work because I know my limitations—LOL! I’m not a professional, and I would much rather have someone who knows what they’re doing handle these cabinets properly. Since they’re in such fantastic condition, I want to make the most of what I already have rather than replacing them.

So what would you do if these were your cabinets—stain them a different color or paint them? If you recommend staining, what color would you consider? And if you recommend paint, what color would you choose to work with the countertops and floors?

I’d really appreciate your suggestions, especially from anyone who has updated older oak cabinets and can share what worked—or what they wish they had done differently!

This is my kitchen, and for now, replacing the cabinets, granite countertops, or flooring just isn’t in the plans. I’m trying to work with what I have and find some ways to make the space feel a little more updated without taking on a major renovation.

My biggest issue is all of the warm orange tones. Between the wood cabinets, the countertops, tile floor, and backsplash, everything feels very warm and a little too orange to me. I’d love to find ways to tone that down and create a more balanced, updated look while still keeping the existing cabinets, granite, and flooring.

I’m open to changing things like the wall color, lighting, window treatments, hardware, decor, rugs, accessories, or anything else that could help shift the overall feel of the kitchen. I just do not want to paint the walls green, so I’d love ideas that work with a different color direction.

If this were your kitchen and you had to keep the cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and flooring exactly as they are, what would you do to tone down all of the orange and make the space feel fresher and more cohesive? I’d really appreciate any suggestions, especially ideas that can make a noticeable difference without replacing the major finishes.

We can’t afford to replace the bedroom set right now, so I’m hoping to find some creative, budget-friendly ways to refresh the room and make it feel more like me. I’m more drawn to a modern cottage style, and I’d love suggestions for how I could update what I already have rather than starting completely over.

I’m especially looking for ideas for the lamps, bedding, and possibly changing out the furniture legs and k***s to give the existing pieces a different look. If you have ideas for colors, textures, or small changes that would help soften and update the dark wood, I’d love to hear them. I’m also really interested in image mock-ups so I can get a better sense of what different options might look like in the actual room.

Update: After about an hour of shopping the house in between keeping up with my busy kids (3 under 8 😅), I added an updated photo in the comments. I’ve found a few more things to play around with, and I’m also realizing that I may not love some of the existing artwork throughout my home, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for replacements as I go.

I’m planning to work on changing out the legs and k***s over the next few weeks as well. Thank you so much for all the inspiring pictures, suggestions, and especially for the time and effort you put into creating them! I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to help me see the possibilities in the room without having to purchase an entirely new bedroom set. ❤️

I’m getting ready to repaint this dining room and would love some help choosing the right color. The only change I’m planning to make is paint—the furniture, cabinets, flooring, lighting, artwork, and everything else will stay exactly as they are.

I’ve put together a few color options and I’m torn between A, B, or C. Which one do you think works best with the existing wood tones, cream-colored cabinetry, patterned rug, and the natural light coming through the large window?

Or would you choose a completely different paint color altogether? I’m open to suggestions, especially something that will make the room feel warm, inviting, and cohesive without fighting with everything that’s already here.

Would you choose A, B, C, or another color? Thanks so much!

I've been trying to finish this dining room for what feels like forever, and I'm officially out of ideas.

The biggest problem is my ch*****ne bronze chandelier. Against the oak fluted accent wall, it almost disappears instead of standing out the way I imagined. On top of that, the fluted wall has so much visual movement that it almost makes the room feel busy, so I'd love to add something large enough to break it up without taking away from it.

I'm hoping to stay with the colors already in the room—vintage greens, tans, and creams from the rug. The centerpiece that's there now is only temporary because I haven't found anything I really love yet. I've been searching for weeks, maybe even months, and nothing feels like the right fit.

I'm sure someone out there has an idea I haven't thought of.

If this were your dining room, what would you add to help the chandelier stand out and soften the look of the fluted wall while keeping the same color palette?

My newest kitchen cabinet hack has completely changed how I think about storage, and I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner. We moved into this house two years ago, and I've been struggling with the weirdest kitchen layout - tons of wall space but hardly any storage. I kept staring at this empty wall next to our cabinets, thinking there had to be a way to add more storage without doing a full kitchen renovation. The space was just sitting there, doing nothing, while I was cramming stuff into every other cabinet we had. That's when I saw a post in a DIY group on the Tedooo app about building custom pantry cabinets that look built-in. The person had basically created a floor-to-ceiling storage unit that matched their existing cabinets perfectly. I screenshot it immediately and started planning. I measured everything about fifty times, then had the cabinet built to match our existing ones exactly. The key was getting the crown molding and door style right so it would look like it was always supposed to be there. When I shared the finished result back on Tedooo, people couldn't believe it wasn't original to the kitchen. Now I have this amazing pantry space that holds all my dry goods, small appliances, and cleaning supplies. It's like I gained an entire closet worth of storage just by thinking creatively about that dead wall space. Sometimes the best solutions are hiding in plain sight.

I added a photo of my finished office to another post, but I think it may have been deleted, so I wanted to share it again! 😊

Before this makeover, the room was basically just a craft room that I never really had time to use.

I’m an interior designer, and my personal style leans toward European/French elegance, so I decided to finally turn this space into something that felt much more like me.

And here she is, finished! ✨

The crazy part is that it literally took just ONE day to pull everything together, and I had so much fun doing it.

I absolutely love how it turned out!

HELP! We’re currently remodeling our kitchen, and I’m stuck on what color to paint the **bottom cabinets**. 😩

The **upper cabinets are staying white**, and we’re keeping the **gold hardware**.

I just want to choose a color that works well with both the **floors and countertops** and makes everything feel cohesive.

Right now I’m torn between:

• A warm **tan/taupe** color
• **Black**

I added some inspiration photos to show the look I’m considering.

Which direction would you go? I’d love to hear what you think! 🤎🖤
