The recent SCOTUS decision dehumanizes women and trans people who can become pregnant. It moves us even further into second class citizen status, taking away our power to make decisions over our own bodies. It disproportionately harms and can be lethal for black and brown women and women who are differently abled.

We mourn, we rage, we gather and support one another, and we continue to fight, love, and create until abortion access is legally codified as a fundamental human right for all.

Artifacts are one of the first methods of time travel - not objects frozen in time, but rather objects that transcend time onto which we imbue story and meaning. Here are a few more artifacts of the future created by some brilliant makers in our workshop at !!! After the workshop these were part of the museum of the future, hosted by Stanford d.school! These created objects show us what a liberated and just future could look like.

Intergenerational Transmissions from the Future! A few snapshots of our workshop at in motion as folks crafted artifacts of the future, reflecting and concretizing visions and understandings of the liberation and justice we are working towards! Big thanks to the Stanford d.school for inviting us to be part of such a radical, beautiful makers space!

Time travel is and always has been a tradition, a process, a way of being through which our ancestors and through which we exist. It is critical to social justice, and we look to Black women leaders, thinkers, writers, poets, and creators like N.K. Jemisin, who expand how we think about past and future, to help us dream and craft stories in all directions.

Who gets to tell our story? Who has the right to represent another? What racist and colonialist practices of communications and storytelling by institutions and non-profits need to be dismantled? How do we build and hold space and platforms for youth to, with ownership and authorship, share their stories?

As part of the Reconstructing Children's Rights Institute series of conversations, the RC team joined artists Miriam Sugranyes, and Galuh Indri Wiyarti to talk about these questions and the impact of art and storytelling in shifting power and showing truths.

Last year we collaborated with on a graphic series spotlighting the work of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and the barriers and violences they face because of their leadership in these movements. This emerged out of their  Report.

Featured here is Windel Bolinget, an indigenous rights defender and the Chairperson of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA), an alliance of over 300 indigenous people’s organizations in the Cordillera region of the Philippines campaigning against extrajudicial killings, trumped-up cases, enforced disappearance, harassment, and intimidation of Cordillera indigenous peoples.

69% of killings of human rights defenders in 2020 were connected with land and indigenous peoples rights.

Yet, networks like the CPA continue to struggle for indigenous rights, land, identities.

Last year we collaborated with on a graphic series spotlighting the work of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and the barriers and violences they face because of their leadership in these movements. This emerged out of their  Report.

Featured here is are Margot and Łania, activists in Poland who were part of “Stop Bzdurom” (Stop Bu****it), created in response to “StopPaedophilia”, a campaign that publicly associates LGBTIQ+ people with paedophiles. They also protest self-proclaimed “LGBT-free zones”, declared in an estimated 30% of the country.

According to the  , 14% of targeted activists worldwide were defending  + rights. Margot and Łania were arrested in Warsaw for placing rainbow flags into the hands of several statues in the Polish capital.

Yet, in spite of the violence and persecution they face, Margot and Łania and so many other defenders create, organize and fight to exist.

Last year we collaborated with to create a visual series spotlighting the work of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and the barriers and violences they face because of their leadership in these movements. This emerged out of their Report.

Featured here is Jean Marc Bikoko, a leader defending human rights and representing the social interests of public sector workers in Cameroon. He is the focal point for Dynamique Citoyenne - network of Cameroonian civil society organizations that conduct independent monitoring of public policies and cooperation and advocacy strategies.

As ‘ report showed, arbitrary detention and arrest of HRDs is widespread in . Jean Marc and many Human Rights Defenders, who challenge governments were and continue to be clearly targeted through judicial harassment. Their governments use the law as a weapon with legal proceedings against defenders frequently remaining open for years.

Yet, Jean Marc and so many HRDs continue the collective movement against corruption and stand together as the fiery heart of civil society!
