A Full Service Documentary Production Company
A POWERFUL STORY CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
590films is a full-service video production company, soup to nuts. We come up with visual and storytelling concepts, organize shoots, conduct interviews and gather beautiful footage. We write compelling scripts and edit moving pieces that we’ll deliver to you in whatever format best suits your needs and provides you with the greatest impact.
Why hire us? To start, we’ve produced and directed award-winning documentaries and we bring that sensibility to every single project we do. We know how to digest huge amounts of complicated information and tease out a heart-tugging story.
Over our 15 years in business, we’ve collaborated with some topnotch marketing companies. In the process, we’ve learned a thing or two about branding. We know to read everything we can get our hands on, interview key stakeholders, research the market, and listen, listen, listen. Then we write up a treatment proposing our creative concepts. Not to brag (okay, we’ll brag a little), but often our ideas drive an entire project across assets — web and print.
Out in the field, we can make even the most reluctant participant pour their heart out in an interview. We have technical bonafides and a creative eye that we bring to both filming and editing. We work with an amazing team of freelancers, including kickass photographers, that we bring onto our projects depending on the scope. From every angle, we know how to tell a good story—one that will change minds and inspire action.

We were thrilled to produce this video for Amalgamated Bank, the first bank to endorse the UN's Principles for #ResponsibleBanking.

“See what Keith Mestrich, CEO of @AmalgamatedBank, has to say about why their bank has signed up to the Principles for #ResponsibleBanking and what they hope to achieve. Find out more: https://t.co/p7ZTxCmDdp https://t.co/FuaZXlIt9l”
Very honored and excited that PBS is re-broadcasting our film The Trees in September. If you haven't seen it yet, the film follows the design and construction of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum landscape. Check it out Sunday, September 8th at 7PM on Channel 13. Playing again on 9/11 at 8pm on NJTV, then a few other times around the 9/11 anniversary.
Filmed over five years, "The Trees" is the untold story of the construction of the World Trade Center Plaza. Through the stories of the men and women who…
Fun shoot with our client @amalgamated_bank interviewing CEO Keith Mestrich about the bank signing on to the @unitednations Principles for Responsible Banking. 590films likes working with a bank that actually cares about the environment and does things to show it! If only we could not bring so many darn black bags... #onset #videoproduction #sociallyresponsible #sociallyresponsibleinvesting @ Amalgamated Bank
First shoot on a sound stage using an @eyedirect “interrotron.” It’s a tricky yet simple mirror system that allows natural and comfortable interviews looking directly into the camera. Super intimate, and the perfect style given our subject matter. Can’t wait to share our video for @imentororg 20th anniversary! @ Bravo Studios
Always a slightly stressful way to begin a video shoot in the #woods 😳
Great to be working with one of our favorite clients, @imentororg creating a video to celebrate their 20th anniversary! Stay tuned for video from our shoot with Crystal, Yvonne and Yvonne’s adorable son Noah. #nyc #storytelling #mentor #mentorship #mentoring
We had an amazing day yesterday, interviewing advocates for increased clemency in New York State. #criminaljusticereformnow #criminaljustice #nyuj #governorcuomo
Earlier this year, we travelled to Alabama to document the work of abortion clinic escorts. Thinking today of the many women and girls who will be affected by #AlabamaAbortionBan and all the brave volunteers who work so hard to protect them.
Spent a completely humbling and inspiring day filming abortion clinic escorts in Alabama today. They help to protect the privacy of patients from completely deranged and hostile protestors. #prochoice #abortionrights
Back at it again this year with Girls, Inc. NYC, this year with the inspiring Keisha Smith-Jeremie of Tory Burch and sanaia.
In honor or International Women's Day, we wanted to share a video we produced for WomenStrong International. WomenStrong is a global community of organizations working with women and girls to end extreme urban poverty. They start and end by listening to urban women and girls, who know best what they need in order to thrive. WomenStrong finds, funds, nurtures, and shares women-driven solutions that can transform lives.
We produced a seriese of 12 videos for them and this one focuses on their work in Ghana and Haiti around neonatal healthcare. Consider donating to support their life-changing work.
And visit www.590films.org to see more of our videos for women's health and rights organizations.
New Yorkers United for Justice
Michael Morton was wrongfully incarcerated for 25 years after TX discovery laws allowed prosecutors to inappropriately withhold evidence that would have proven his innocence. The real person who committed the crime was allowed to go free and killed again.
Conservative TX changed their laws—it’s time for NY to do the same.
Criminal justice reform in New York includes fixing NYS's flawed discovery laws that permit prosecutors to withhold evidence - leading to wrongful convictions where innocent people go to prison, and dangerous people go free. This harms public safety and leads to great injustices across our state. Visit https://nyuj.org for more information – join us! #Justice4NYers
The commercial we produced for New Yorkers United for Justice with Skdknickerbocker was written up by the Daily News. $500,000 ad buy to try to pass important criminal justice reform in New York State!
A group advocating for criminal justice reform and open discovery in New York wants lawmakers in the Empire State to take a cue from Texas.
After spending 25 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Michael Morton has dedicated his life to passing laws that ensure that criminal prosecutions are transparent and fair. Working with him and his wife Cynthia this week to push for prosecutorial reform in New York was an inspiration. New Yorkers United for Justice
We are thrilled to be working with Sidwell Friends School. Take a look at our first collaboration here:
We welcome 2019 with a message of optimism and invite you to watch "Lead in the Light: Empowering Students to Let Their Lives Speak." Read about our strategic action plan at www.sidwell.edu/strategicplan.
A super fun shoot today with artist Camille Utterback at the National Portrait Gallery. Check out the exhibition, Black Out: Silhouettes Then and Now. It’s interesting and smart.
Another amazing win to celebrate! On Tuesday, Mónica Martinez flipped the New York State 3rd Senate District from red to blue. She is the first Salvadoran American elected to the NYS Senate, and is part of the wave of Dems that finally broke Republican control of the Senate. As a former teacher and a Suffolk County legislator, she has proven herself to be a hard worker, a fierce protector of the underserved, and a strong, independent voice. We can’t wait to see what she does at the state level.
Working with The People PAC and Eleanor’s Legacy, we are so proud to have created videos for Mónica Martinez’s campaign. Go, Mónica!!
Mónica Martinez elected as New York State Senator
Anna Kaplan won!! The New York State Senate is now controlled by the Democrats for the first time in decades! With a unified government, we can finally get some truly progressive legislation passed.
Anna Kaplan for State Senate ran a great race against a tough opponent who had huge financial support from shady Republican PACs.
And 590films was part of the team that produced Anna's ad, along with The People and Eleanor's Legacy. We can't begin to describe how overjoyed we are to have played a small part in this victory.
It is truly a great day in New York State. Anna, we love you!
A sincere thank you to everyone who knocked on doors, made calls or simply gave me an opportunity to explain my vision of how we can improve our community.
I make this promise to the residents of District 7 - as your representative in the state Senate I will continue our fight for a New York that works for everyone: holding down taxes, strengthening gun violence prevention laws, protecting women’s reproductive rights and preserving our environment.
Thank you,
Anna
Thinking today about all the incredible candidates we worked with this election season and wishing them all the best of luck! 🌊🌊🌊 #ALDems #NYSSenate
We want to share this video we produced a few years ago for the Empire State Pride Agenda. This is the story of Joanne Borden, who is transgender and has been fighting for years to get New York State to pass the Gender Non Discrimination Act (GENDA) bill protecting the rights of transgender New Yorkers. Since 2009, the Republican New York State Senate has refused to pass this important bill. And with the Trump administration now threatening to deny the very existence of transgendered Americans, now is the time to act.
This is one of a thousand reasons why tomorrow we must flip the New York State Senate and this is one of a thousand reasons why tomorrow we must flip the US House and Senate.
Do it for people like Joanne. Vote.
It's the last day to register to vote in Alabama! And if you live in HD 10, Vote for JB King! He's got excellent, innovative ideas about how to improve education in Alabama -- and he's a lovely person to work with.
J. B. King believes that Alabama would benefit greatly from an education lottery dedicated to funding education.
Jenn Gray wants to bring health care to 300,000 Alabamians and jobs to 30,000. How will she do this? She will vote to expand Medicaid when she gets to Montgomery. Plus, she's an awesome person to work with. Vote Jenn Gray, Alabama!
Your life can change in the blink of an eye. Every Alabamian needs to have quality, affordable insurance to protect their lives and their livelihood. Saving Alabamian’s lives is a great return on our investment.
Excited to share this video we produced for Joe Siegelman's campaign for Attorney General of Alabama! Joe's running a positive campaign as a uniter who will focus his work on Alabama and not frivolous out of state lawsuits seeking to dismantle the ACA. What a fun project to have worked on - our shoot took us to Montgomery, Selma and Birmingham. Go Joe!
The Attorney General's office shouldn't be about partisan politics. It's the one office where politics must be left at the door. That's why I'm running: to apply the law fairly, equally, and impartially--independent of a political agenda.
Today we are sharing the video we produced for Felicia Stewart, candidate for the Alabama House of Representatives. We got to meet her lovely family and watch her in action with voters. She's the real deal and she'll do an amazing job representing District 46!
When every child in Alabama has access to well-funded, high quality public education, our state will begin to realize its full potential. #ExpectMore
Very excited for the launch of our series of political ads for 18 Democratic candidates running for the Alabama House of Representatives (yes, that's 18. We've been busy!)
We got to follow Alli for Alabama to a campaign event and you could see how energized people are by her message of working together for a better Alabama.
US vs. THEM gets us nowhere. At its foundation, we all want the same thing: a better Alabama. Let’s work together towards that goal.
Here's our commercial for Anna Kaplan for State Senate!
Ladies and Gentlemen, our first campaign commercial! Be sure to share it! #AnnaforNYSenate #LetsDoThis #EleanorsLegacy
So excited and proud to have produced this video!
Our country has made incredible progress in the last decade to support, include, and protect LGBTQ Americans. But far too many young LGBTQ folks still face rejection at home and in their communities. When young people aren’t supported by the people closest to them, their health, well-being and dignity are at risk. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can change the culture—and you can help, right now, by telling your story.
I hope you’ll join the Biden Foundation by sharing stories about the value of family and community acceptance and the harms of rejection. Together, we can change the culture and help to create a bright future for our nation’s LGBTQ young people. #AsYouAre https://go.bidenfoundation.org/AsYouAre

We are so proud to have produced this video for Physicians for Reproductive Health. Working with these courageous doctors was so inspiring.
Watch this inspiring video featuring the bold, outspoken doctors of Physicians for Reproductive Health, using their voices to defend their patients’ reproductive health and rights!

One of the reasons we ❤️ working with Physicians for Reproductive Health is because we get to work with our heroes. Thank you, Cecile Richards!
We had a great day today, documenting the awesome work of Girl's Inc. of NYC and designer Michelle Smith of MILLY.
In these not so good times, it makes us so happy to get to work with AMAZING organizations like WomenStrong International who are doing so much to help women and girls around the world.
We made this video and are very proud to have done so.
WomenStrong International is a social innovations lab. Our next step is to more broadly share what we’ve learned, the best ideas to help women and girls everywhere live in dignity and hope.

We are so honored to work with WomenStrong International. Over the past year, we've been producing a series of videos for this inspirational organization. Check out this post and please help them support women and girls in Haiti, India, Ghana and Kenya.
“If we weren’t part of the Consortium, we would not have a women’s health program. We would not have an operating room. We are saving lives.” - Rose-Marie Chierici, Ph.D., Executive Director of WomenStrong International Consortium Member H.O.P.E.
We support women-driven solutions to end extreme urban poverty. Our Consortium Members tell us our unique approach works: Watch to learn about the success of programs in education, economic empowerment and women’s health: http://bit.ly/2mfpcnb.

This is Liam. We could barely keep up with him on a shoot today for the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Super excited to have produced this video for Girls Inc. and HSBC about their amazing mentoring partnership. It was a great story and a fun video to make!
