What to do with (formerly exterior) painted brick wall? Had a small mudroom and garage added. Pictures show the one area where the new wall meets the old exterior wall of the house (where the door into the rest of the house was added). As you can see there's a small area (about 4-5" wide to the right and bottom of the doorframe, plus a narrow strip about 1" wide above it) where the old painted brick exterior is still showing; it's not in great shape, the paint is peeling in a few places etc.
There's also a little gap where the framing/drywall of the new wall meets the old exterior wall.
The new drywall is going to be primed/painted. But what should I do with 1) the little gap and 2) the painted brick portion?
A couple of ideas - for the gap:
Just caulk it?
Spray foam and trim then caulk?
Drywall corner bead and mud?
And for the wall:
Just paint over it?
Mud over the whole exposed area to get a smooth surface and then paint over it?
Cut a narrow section of drywall, mount that over the brick, then mud and paint? (this would be tricky, I have the tools for painting and mudding but not cutting drywall)
Strip the existing paint (how?) and then do one of the above?
Just strip the existing paint and leave the exposed brick?
Do any of these options make sense, or would y'all recommend doing something else entirely?
