naffcast021 : Hewan Aman @ note to self (Barcelona)

the 21st entry in our mix series comes from one of the deepest sound providers : Hewan Aman. I met Hewan years ago at Macadam in Nantes and immediately got drawn in to her set. Waves of deep uncompromising bio rhythms that keeps everyone quietly entranced. This mix has that same kind of arcane power - Priori

Words from the artist :

This was recorded late on a Friday night in mid-April.
A beautiful DIY moment with ‘note to self’ : around 100 people gathered in a community-built warehouse space in Barcelona, everyone deeply dedicated to sound.

Like early spring, the set moves between introspection and sudden openings. Moments of light breaking through after the quieter winter months.

Something clicked that night and the way the energy kept circulating from the decks to the speakers, into the space, through the dancers, and back to me—one of those moments where everything felt super aligned. They somehow hit record (bless you antonio!), and here we are.

The next naff record comes in the form of a 5 tracker titled ‘Sky Burial’ by our dear friend Piezo.

Named after the ancient Tibetan funeral practice of disembodiment, Piezo’s Sky Burial delivers five epic club tracks primed for dancefloor transcendence. Those familiar with early iterations of Italian trance will savour the Milan veteran’s neo-prog alchemy, where psych-tipped rollers ratchet up to wild pitches of blistered euphoria, shifting into IDM-tinged electro and pensive bass pressure.

The first single ‘Sky Burial’ is out today. Full will be released physically and digitally on June 25th

Written and produced by Luca Mucci
Additional mixing by Francis Latreille
Vocals on “Trunks” by LOREM
Mastered by Francis Latreile
Artwork and design by Jesse Osborne-Lanthier

naffcast020 - Yibing @ ˖𓍢ִ໋❀ Sustain Release 2024 ⋆˚꩜.ᐟ

mix 20 comes from new york’s fav . Her set at Sustain Release encapsulates the mythical aura of the catskill forest we gather in every year. This festival and Yibing’s sound is such a natural fit for naff.

In the artist’s words :

In the fall of 2024 I got to kick things off for S-R Year 10, playing the first set of the whole festival at one of my favorite places ever - The Grove. It was so special to get to play around dusk, as the sun set in the woods. Prepping for this set, I was constantly thinking about how that place had inspired me deeply the years prior. The way the sound projects from the speakers up in the surrounding trees is mind-blowing. Every sound comes through with steel-like clarity, crisp and precise, but never cold…

Re-encountering this set after a year and a half since it happened, I can now see it as a 2-part mix unfolding - a first part that’s a bit darker, trippy and percussive, and a second part that is bright, ethereal and nostalgic.

I also accidentally recorded the set with my phone’s mic instead of the mixer output so we ended up blending that into the recording of the set (shoutout Khalil for mastering!). I love that the ambient sounds from the crowd are embedded in, creating a time capsule of a very special moment that I cherish so much.

naffcast019 : 𝒦𝒾ℯ𝓇𝓃𝒶𝓃 ℒ𝒶𝓋ℯ𝒶𝓊𝓍
at Tangent Gallery in Detroit October 2024 IT x T4TLUVNRG Samhain party

the 19th entry in our series is a noteworthy one. Our friend Kiernan Laveaux is one of the more singular djs we’ve ever had the pleasure to see. She weaves records together with the flair and attitude of a person that sees music through a completely different lens. It’s raw, dynamic, controlled chaos that brings people close and leaves everyone one the dancefloor in a state of awakening, minds expanded.

words from the artist :

This mix was recorded live in Detroit October 2024, soundtracking the turn into the shadowy inbetweens of Samhain & the chaos of the now & then, transmitted through the stacks of the LUV NRG Soundsystem. Sinister joy, poignant nonsense, & wicked kinetics abound in the friction of threshold - taking shape into the strange & eclectic constant of change. Listen loud & dance with the fairies

it’s spring and we’re revisiting Pör, k2dj aka Ben Bondy’s stunner released on naff in 2023. The album covers an unlikely spectrum, shifting from downtempo to footwork to indietronica, strung together by Ben’s perfectly processed vocal melodies. For lovers of Dntel and Imogen Heap— but mostly, for lovers of Bondy.

start your week off right with a masterful blend from our friend Tom aka Compliments

words from the artist :

1. What I’d play if I ever had the chance to soundtrack The Grove at Sustain-Release.
2. Live footage of me trying to make sense of DJing on three decks without it sounding sh*te.
3. Flow over drops.
4. Blends that sound like tunes, tunes that sound like blends.
