🤯 Come with me to the quietest room in the world.

🔊This is the Anechoic Chamber located deep inside of Microsoft’s headquarters, a few miles outside of Seattle.

🏆 In 2015, Microsoft earned the Guinness World Record for the quietest place on Earth at the time.

The room produced an average background level of -20.35 dBA. Yes… with A NEGATIVE SIGN.

🤓 Brief lesson on dee bee aye:

dBA stands for A-weighted decibels but for reference just know that…
🗣️ A normal conversation is about 60 dBA.
📖 A quiet library is about 30 dBA.
🫁 Human breathing is about 10 dBA.
👂 The threshold for human hearing is 0 dBA.

🎚️Microsoft’s chamber is about -20 dBA.

🫀That’s also why the chamber feels so strange. Once environmental sound disappears, extremely subtle sounds from your own body can become unusually noticeable… like breathing, your own heartbeat, crackling of joints, and food digesting in your stomach.

Sometimes causing people so much discomfort that they choose not to stay longer than 30 minutes (apparently).

👑In 2021, another research facility, Orfield Labs, dethroned them. Their room comes in at about -24 dBA.

Help me I am literally unable to read fiction😩🙃

As someone who is heavily addicted to learning new things, I just have never been able to get into the escapism that reading fiction offers. I’m sure it’s fun though! 🤣😅

Give me your best fiction recommendations!! Like knowing I have a hard time getting into fiction… what’s a fiction book you’d recommend that you think is truly mentally stimulating and irresistible? Lmk!

⬇️📋 Steal my Lisbon Weekend itenerary for a blend of books, bars, and local hangout spots.

📍You’re going to stay in Bairro Alto, a great area with tons of people, shops, transit options, and restaurants.

🍇 Personal recommendation is Casa Do Barao. All day bites and drinks included, lovely owners, fluent English, epic decor and nooks. Get a room with a patio. I’d stay here again and again. 10/10

🍸 Your designated nightcap spot is around the corner at an underground jazz club called Midnight Espresso. Think live music, wax burning candles, tourist hang out. They’ve got deserts and drinks open late. They sat a group traveling from Australia next to us and we started chatting. The hosted then told us we were all talking too loud lol this place is really a place to whisper and just sit back and listen to the music.

🔥 Walk half a mile and check out the Church of San Domingos. A giant fire erupted here back in the 50s. Most of the walls are still burnt, but the church is still going strong. It’s a huge and awe-inspiring space that still has sermons twice a day.

🏰 Pick a castle or tower to visit during your stay. It’s wild to see these beautiful buildings made hundreds of years ago. It’s like looking to a time capsule. I chose to check out Belem Tower. It was cool! It ended up actually being a really chill spot to unwind, relax, and walk along the water with a limonade.

📚 One day, you’ll bring your book with you and travel out to the Lx Factory to see one of the coolest bookstores in Portugal, Livraria ler Devagar. It’s a poster store, record shop, and massive bookstore all-in-one. It’s huge yet its entrance is so inconspicuous, you might miss it. Look for the black and white graffiti of a man reading right outside of its entry doors to let you know you’re in the right place.

🍵Looking for premium grade matcha? We went to Quest for breakfast and it was ghe perfect spot with a hip trendy staff.

My latest NYC obsession 🤩🧠🤓 For those that like to philosophize and yap!! Heavyyy on the yap 🤣 it’s called Philosophy Club NYC. .nyc

They meet a few times a month all over the city. Every time features a different topic of discussion. This time it was on memory but past meets have featured free will, grief, death, etc as discussion topics. 📄

You literally just show up, pick a group, and yap about the given topic for 30 minutes together. Then you switch to another group and do it again. 💬

I left so inspired and realizing just how few places exist where you can literally just show up and express your opinions with strangers… 🤔

Epic way to meet new people in the city. I ended up swapping contact info with one of my groups and we’re planning on meeting up for coffee soon. 🤗

What will say is that this… is not for the weak 😅 you must come prepared to socialize lmao like you’ll literally be talking for hours with strangers which… can be energetically taxing. So I definitely recommend coming when you’re energized and like… ready to UNLEASH 🤣.

I’ll be adding this into my event rotation for every month. Highly recommend for thinkers and yappers out there! 🧠

How to Win Rock Paper Scissors ✂️ The Madman Theory and escaping 🔫 assassins

There are unspoken benefits to being unpredictable, irrational or chaotic. “Never let them know your next move” is essentially a phrase rooted in this understanding.

I recently learned about the Madman Theory after having a call with a future speaker, Dr. James Boys.

Then I came across a chapter in the book I’m reading that was all about Rock Paper Scissors and I began to spiral at all the collections LOL thought I’d share!

Moral of the story? Sometimes being dumb is smart and being smart is dumb. Feigning irrationality is sometimes the more rational move. Predictability can be exploited, so yeah, never let ‘em know your next move! And make your next move your best move!

Make this a tradition for MLK day next year!! I’m telling you, so thought-provoking.. and always ends with hours of inspiring conversation.

Last year, the Lectures on Tap MLK lecture was given by Emmy Award Winning documentary filmmaker Trey Ellis. It was all about his journey documenting the winning film “King in the Wild”.

This year it was given by Prof. Richard Benson and it was all about the little known radical side of MLK.

I learned a lot and was left so inspired! I’m still thinking about how/why we aren’t taught about just how organized and coordinated the civil rights movement really was.

Like for example Rosa Parks didn’t randomly decide to not give up her seat bc her feet hurt that day. 🙄

It was PLANNED that she would do that stunt THAT day. That morning she knew that she would go to jail that day. Very planned, very organized, and they never teach kids the full story about just how genius it all was.

Anyway this was such a fun time w the fam!! Only one missing was !!
