Hired some contractors to do the roof, they were super fast, professional, and affordable. But I don’t know enough about roofing to know if they did a good job. Any opinions are welcome.

They also replaced two sheets worth of rotted ply wood.

Is it normal for a company to install 28 squares in 4 hours?
They did all the demo, peel & stick underlayment and vents in 1 day on Friday in about 10 hours. They also placed all the shingles and adhesive up on the roof that day.

Today they returned at around 7:30am and were done by noon. Is that normal?

It was a crew of 6-7 if I recall correctly. It looks pretty good to me what I can see from the ground. The only questionable areas I see are the shingles curves over the ridges seem to not be as flat as they could be.

Also, I zoomed in on a shingle (pics 11-13) that is essentially just a tunnel in front of one of my vents, I can see through it from the ground. Will these areas lay flat after a couple of days a bit Florida weather?

Thank you for your input.

Had our roof replaced.
Wife and I bought our first home last year. Two existing layers of shingles on top of cedar shake. Neighbor has lived next door for 40 years and couldn't remember the last time the roof was done. Had the garage roof replaced as well in addition to new gutters which aren't shown here.

A bit nerve-racking to have a small army decend on your home with hammers and shovels but we're happy with how it turned out. What do you guys think?

My first and last time I'm ever replacing a roof. If I messed up and it leaks, I'll claim it as storm damage on insurance lol

How screwed am I?
Had a new roof installed less than 2 years ago after severe hail damage. A few weeks ago I had an HVAC guy in my attic to quote an air handler replacement and he said the attic was too hot and that I needed a roofer to come check the vents. At first I thought he was being a bit of a diva since it's a Texas attic in a heatwave and I just assumed working hours were limited to the morning for attic work. I stuck a sensor up there just to check it out and it peaks at 145 degrees every day!! This morning I noticed the entire roof looked wavy. I checked back to my roofing contract it appears that it said they were to inspect all sheathing and install vents though I have no idea what I'm talking about and if this was negligence on their part or just bad luck. My neighbors got a new roof at the same time also and theirs doesn't have the waviness nor anyone else's in my neighborhood that I've seen. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

DIY’ed my roof, what do you think?
Before/after progress pics of my roofing project from August. I calculated that it took about 100 man hours between myself and a friend + my dad who helped me. Quite a bit of that was spent in my attic bracing the 2x4, 24in on center rafters before replacing some of the sub roof. I’m sure we didn’t do any of it perfect, but I’m cautiously optimistic about our work and most importantly it doesn’t leak! It was very enjoyable to learn how to do this work; I welcome any feedback.

P.s. mad respect for professional roofers. Some of the hardest physical work I’ve ever done - I don’t know how y’all do this so effortlessly!

I fell through a roof.
I was doing a quick roof inspection with my father for a roof that needed replacement. We were on the roof for maybe 10 minutes at most. As we were walking to the ladder my dad stepped through a bad spot in the roof and his leg went through, out of instinct I quickly rushed over and pushed him out of the hole, and in doing so I took 2 steps back and fell through the roof completely.

I fell 20 feet through and landed on a pallet. I broke 8 ribs and had a collapsed lung with internal bleeding. I spent 9 days in the trauma ICU with 2 chest tubes and took me 2 months to finally get back to work, and I'm just now fully recovered.

Honestly, I'm just glad it wasn't my dad that went through.

Insurance says shingles are 67 years old unless I can prove otherwise.
My roof was damaged by huge hail storm 7/24/23. Insurance says it is s total loss. It was replaced by previous owners about 15-20 years ago. Insurance will pay fully for shingles less than 15 years old and prorated for older. House was built 67 years ago. We bought it 3 years ago. Insurance says they consider roof to be original unless I can prove otherwise. They will pay almost nothing. I checked building permits (none needed in area) and previous owners receipts (none). Also looked for spare shingles in pack with date stamp (none). I found some shingles blown into garden with intact cellophane nailing strips with printing “DHA 10,618”.
Can anyone help me to establish manufacturing date of my shingles?
