Knot of powercable as strain relief

Hey all,

I'm trying to make somewhat of a water "resistant" box for my device (should survive water splash and rain/being outdoors). It consist of 4 parts: shell top and bottom printed in ASA, TPU-gasket and a cable gland. My main concern is that the cable being accidentally yanked out and causing a short circuit. I thought of tying a now as a strainrelief to prevent this. Any issues that I don't see with this solution? Also any tips regarding the "waterproofness" of my implementation is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the tips and help in advance! :D

Do oscilloscopes really have DLCs now?

I recently discovered that my MDO34 has an RF input port, and the manual describes RF measurement capabilities. Naturally, I assumed I could use it for an RF-related project.

After spending time preparing everything, I found out that the RF functionality is locked behind a paid license. The connector is physically there, but the feature isn't usable unless someone purchases the license.

I understand charging extra for additional software features, but this feels different when the hardware is already installed and visible on the instrument.

Is this common practice in the test equipment industry? Do engineers generally consider it reasonable, or does it strike others as misleading or unfair as well?

I need some help identifying this IC...

As the title says I'm trying to ID this hssop-28 IC from a stock radio in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma...It looks to be some type of power management IC...I have looked everywhere I know to look and I can't find anything...I'm hoping someone on here will have run across it before...

I AM ABSOLUTELY FUMING. I tried to order standard LED troffers for a job, and because I didn't verify the exact product line, I ended up with these absolute nightmares in image_f237e3.jpg! Who in their right mind designs a ceiling fixture with a loose, dangling junction box just flopping around on the back? It looks like a cheap, half-baked prototype that should have never made it to production.

I called the supplier to demand an explanation for why this "Millhouse" level order arrived, and the guy had the audacity to say the floating junction box is an "ergonomic wiring feature." ERGONOMIC WIRING FEATURE?? It’s a box hanging by a cable that makes the entire fixture feel like a loose piece of junk! He refused to exchange them because "the specs were listed," even though no professional expects a fixture to come with a detached, dangling box.

Would you just eat the cost and return these, or am I supposedly supposed to install these glorified lighting science experiments?

I don't have any good options here, what's the least bad one?

This armored cable misses the internal connector by about an inch and a half, been like this for probably seventy years. The substrate you see here is masonry in an active chimney. It's as hard as a rock, and I don't dare chisel any more because I'm worried about shattering the old clay flue.

The connector is internal to the junction box, and the cable is pretty much kissing the outside of the box, so there are no actual 'exposed' current carrying conductors - I'm not too worried about that. I just want to get this thing properly grounded.

I know this isn't code, but I feel like my best option is to twist a solid copper wire as hard as I can around the cable armor, and then ring terminal that to the box. Anybody have any better ideas? Or any advice as to why I should definitely just not do this?

I AM ABSOLUTELY LOSING MY MIND OVER THIS TEMPORARY POWER POLE. We have used the same shop setup multiple times: a basic 4x4 post with a 2x4 mast. Never had an issue. Now I pull up the Tacoma Power handbook and apparently “temporary service” requires a minimum 4x6 post, three 2x4 braces, multiple stakes, backfilled soil, an eight-foot ground rod, a meter socket, a panel, and enough measurements to qualify as a final exam in lumber-based electricity.

TEMPORARY SERVICE?? This diagram looks like instructions for constructing a medieval signal tower. I asked someone whether a 16-foot 4x6 is really necessary and he said, “You need to build it according to the current utility detail.” CURRENT UTILITY DETAIL?? The electricity is visiting the job site briefly. It is not moving in permanently and enrolling its children in school.

Before I buy half the lumber aisle and build a wooden monument beside the shop, am I reading this right, or has temporary power officially become a full construction project of its own??
