You can feel it in the conversation before it even begins.
The way they have already settled into a version of you that has nothing to do with who you actually are.
And still you try.
You choose your words carefully. You give context. You explain your intentions. You go back and clarify the parts you think they misunderstood.
And none of it lands.
Because they were never really listening for the truth.
They were listening for confirmation of what they already decided.
That is one of the most exhausting places to find yourself.
Not in an argument. Not in conflict.
Just in a conversation where your words keep arriving but never actually reaching anyone.
There is a moment, if you pay attention, where you realize that continuing to explain yourself is no longer about being understood.
It is about managing their comfort with their own judgment of you.
And that is not your job.
You do not owe anyone an endless defense of your character.
You do not have to keep presenting evidence to a jury that already voted.
Some people have made up their minds and your explanation will only become material for a new misunderstanding.
The most powerful thing you can do in that moment is go quiet.
Not out of defeat.
Out of clarity.
The lion does not explain himself to those who were never going to listen.
He simply moves.
And eventually, his life speaks in a language that needs no translation.
