Mi sarebbe piaciuto non dover scrivere questo libro, ma è stato un obbligo morale. Un dovere, come palestinese e come giornalista, di riconoscere e lasciare traccia del più grande crimine di questo secolo.
Questo libro e’ stato scelto in risposta al genocidio del mio popolo.
Alla giuria del premio dico grazie per aver riconosciuto, nelle mie parole e nella mia denuncia da scrittrice, la mia necessità personale e la necessità collettiva di prendere atto, senza mezzi termini, della violenza feroce che sta ancora oggi annientando il mio popolo.It’s bewildering, emotionally, to celebrate an award for a book written in response to a live streamed mass genocide.
I am truly grateful and in awe of the courage required to recognize this work, in the backdrop (no doubt) of huge political pressures, that prefer such works of truth be rejected as “fake news.”
I am also in awe of the bravery and dedication of fellow Palestinian journalists, like who meticulously documents Gaza’s annihilation, in real-time as he bears witness to it.
Our Palestinian colleagues are now the critical guardians of the world’s most recent (and horrific) inconvenient truth: the intentional war crimes that led to the eviscerated Gaza of today. The courage of said journalists fuels all our resolve, to turn this dark chapter into fertile soil…from which justice and freedom must finally prevail.
