John F. Kennedy in the Solomon Islands during World War II.

John F. Kennedy commanded PT boats in the South Pacific during World War II. In April 1943, he took command of PT-109, part of Motor Torpedo Squadron Two, based in the Solomon Islands. On August 1-2, 1943, PT-109 was ordered to intercept Japanese destroyers supplying troops on Kolombangara Island. In a moonless night, the Japanese destroyer Amagiri rammed and cut PT-109 in half, killing two crew members. Kennedy, despite re-injuring his chronic back problem, heroically towed a badly burned crewman with a life jacket strap clenched between his teeth for 3.5 miles to a nearby island.

Kennedy and his surviving crew spent days evading Japanese patrols in the Solomon Islands. With the help of native islanders, he carved a rescue message on a coconut shell, which eventually reached Allied forces, leading to their rescue seven days later. Kennedy's leadership and bravery earned him the Navy and Marine Corps Medal and a Purple Heart for his wounds.

After recovering, Kennedy commanded PT-59, which was converted into a gunboat by removing torpedo tubes and adding heavy machine guns and armor plating. On November 2, 1943, PT-59 participated in the rescue of 40-50 Marines pinned down on Choiseul Island by Japanese forces, providing suppressive fire and evacuating the wounded under heavy fire. Soon after, Kennedy was ordered to leave combat due to his worsening back injury. He retired from the Navy Reserve with the rank of lieutenant in March 1945.

Jimmy Kimmel has reportedly filed a $1 billion lawsuit against Disney and Nexstar Media Group, alleging wrongful termination and violation of his free speech rights. The lawsuit stems from Disney’s indefinite suspension of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" following controversial comments Kimmel made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel’s contract with Disney supposedly allowed him to discuss any topic freely, provided he avoided seven specific prohibited words on TV, which makes the termination particularly contentious.
The situation escalated after FCC Chair Brendan Carr publicly criticized Kimmel’s remarks and implied that Disney-owned ABC affiliates could face regulatory consequences, including losing their broadcast licenses. Nexstar, which owns dozens of ABC affiliate stations, pulled Kimmel’s show first, followed by Disney’s decision to suspend him entirely. Kimmel’s lawsuit will likely focus on claims of breach of contract and possibly indirect government censorship, given the pressure from regulatory threats.
This legal battle highlights a broader debate about free speech in entertainment, corporate responsibility, and how regulatory pressures can influence media decisions. Disney has faced backlash from free-speech advocates, unions, and Hollywood figures, while some conservative voices have supported the suspension, framing it as "consequence culture" rather than censorship.

U.S. Forces Kill Syria-Based ISIS External Operations Planner

On Sept. 19, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a raid in Syria that resulted in the death of a senior ISIS operative who posed a direct threat to the U.S. homeland.

Omar Abdul Qader was an ISIS member actively seeking to attack the United States. His death disrupts the terrorist organization’s ability to plot and carry out future attacks threatening Americans and our partners.

“We will not yield in our pursuit of terrorists seeking to attack the United States, our forces, or allies and partners abroad,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. “I commend the efforts of our skilled warfighters and all who supported them during the mission.”
