Seven years ago, we at Vignette set out to create a company that would tell the difficult stories about our changing world that only rarely cut through the spot news cycle. Over time we’ve had the great privilege to help numerous socially-minded organizations tell the stories of the people they fight for.

Building a business around a client-base of news outlets, non-profits and NGOs was challenging, but we loved the work and the impact it has had.

And yet, all good things must come to an end. This month we will be closing the Vignette Global Public Benefit Corporation.

Founders Matt Ford and Tara Todras-Whitehill will continue to pursue projects that foster real and lasting change, but we are moving from a global corporation model to an individual contributor model to allow us more flexibility to pursue meaningful work in this dynamic media environment we find ourselves in.

We are grateful for the important work we’ve been able to do for our clients in more than 40 countries. What we accomplished at Vignette couldn’t have been accomplished without our UX maven Jakub Krčmář, editor extraordinaire Ali Kerem Öner, producer Sara Merih Ertas with her incredible storytelling instincts, the fine dev team at SUPERKODERS, edgy and innovative designers Funda Akman and Volkan Aydemir at Roketno11, and more than 100 individual contributors. We highly recommend reaching out to them if you are in need of their amazing talents.

You can follow what we are up to next at MattFordMedia.com and TaraTW.com as we continue to work to tell stories for a better world.

Sincerely,
Tara and Matt

As the movement takes off, BuzzFeed recently published an interview with our DOP Tara Todras-Whitehill about a project about women activists who had abortions. This photo series, although over 10 years old, is still relevant today as many find abortion a taboo subject, and won't talk about their experiences.

"I think once you see yourself in someone else’s shoes, that’s when things start to change."

Our work to cover the issue of Global Reproductive Rights was a photographic challenge. How do you visualize a taboo issue and make it interesting to a global audience? Here’s what we did:

The shift in foreign under Trump created a drastic shift in funding that might be vulnerable for organizations that do work in reproductive rights. The Mexico City Policy was expanded under Trump to now possibly affect all foreign health funding. We wanted to create a visual way where readers could....

The World Bank embarked on an ambitious ethnographic study that spoke to people across Sub-Saharan Africa to better understand how they embraced or rejected the rapidly expanding set of digital financial services available to them. We created a game about the risks and rewards of emerging financial services in Sub-Saharan Africa. Learn more about this project:

The stories we tell shape our societies.

Stories matter. It’s how we communicate our vision for a better future and how we transcend our differences to work together on common problems. That’s why at Vignette, we bring together the best creatives and storytellers from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to craft high-quality productions that tackle the most challenging issues of our time.

In an era where fake news and lies dominate our global dialogue, we believe that the truth is more important than ever for creating real social change. That is why we focus on producing authentic documentary stories that build trust and empathy among the core communities of our clients.

If you’re trying to make the world a better place, then we’re here to help.
