Legendary costume designer has died at 87, leaving behind more than six decades of glamour, wit, and unforgettable fashion.
From Cher, Carol Burnett, Diana Ross, and Tina Turner to a new generation including Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter, and Taylor Swift, Mackie’s designs transformed performers into icons and continued to find new audiences, sometimes decades after they were first created.
C Magazine recently visited Mackie at his Palm Springs home, where he reflected on a career that began in Hollywood’s studio system and never really slowed down. Asked if he was thinking about retirement, he told us, “You want to keep working as long as you can. It’s what I always intended to do. And how often do you get to do what you intended to do?”
Today, we remember Bob Mackie and the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind.
