A boy of about 13 or 14 years old went into a pharmacy and asked to make a phone call. The boss happily agreed, watching the boy as he worked.
The phone rang and an older woman greeted him.
- Hello, Madam. I heard you need a child to help you mow the lawn, right? - The boy said.
- Oh, yes. But unfortunately, you already have a boy to do that job - The woman's voice answered.
- But Madam, I can mow the lawn for half the price of that boy.
- Oh, thank you. I'm very satisfied with the boy I'm hiring now, dear.
The boy continued to insist:
- In addition to my main job of mowing the lawn, I'm willing to do many other jobs, like sweeping the sidewalk and garden paths for free, dear.
- No, dear. I really appreciate your calling. I'm sorry. I'm really pleased with the boy who is helping me.
The phone hung up.
The shopkeeper had been listening and following the whole story. He naturally felt sympathy for the boy and suddenly had the idea to help him.
- Hey boy, it seems like you're really looking for a job mowing lawns. I like you. If you don't mind, I'd like you to come mow my garden and start next week.
The boy smiled politely and replied, "No, sir, thank you."
The pharmacy owner was surprised: "Isn't that what you're looking for?"
The boy said playfully: "I'm calling the lady who just called, she's my boss, I just want to check the quality of my gardening work."
