Zbigniew Rybczynski (trailer)

Monumentally influential director Zbigniew Rybczynski joins us here in Los Angeles in person for this very special retrospective of his brilliant, original films. It’s impossible to contemplate the consistently imaginative technical and narrative feats of Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze without Rybczynski’s legacy, which includes visionary music videos for Lou Reed, Mick Jagger, and John Lennon, in addition to countless eye-popping innovations in pixilation, optical printing, and animation. His ubiquitous early-80s spots for MTV will likely incite ecstatic convulsions of nostalgia. Watch the Cinefamily original trailer!

The American Film Showcase and the International Documentary Association invite you to attend a reception and panel discussion featuring six up-and-coming documentary filmmakers from China, Russia, Pakistan, Egypt, Zimbabwe and Burma.

Documentaries are an increasingly popular way for filmmakers around the world to tell their stories and the stories of their communities. In many places though, documentary filmmakers face state censorship, a lack of technical resources, limited filmmaking community, and even restricted access to view international documentary films. Find out what challenges are universal and what are regionally unique. Are there advantages to producing film in different cultural and political environments? What role can locally produced documentary film play within these rapidly changing countries?

Another outstanding hero we had an honor to colaborate with- Krystyna Chciuk who fought bravely during the Warsaw Uprising. Mrs. Chciuk has also been a wonderful and active member of Polish community in San Francisco. The material about Her was produced by Polish-American youths during 2-day audiovisual workshops run by Beata Calińska. The project was organized and sponsored by Nowhere Man WorkHouse, Consulate General of Poland in Los Angeles and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

The material below from the Polish news presents meeting of two heroes – Krystyna Chciuk – 1944 Warsaw Insurgent and Richard Tyhurst who as an American pilot was bringing help (ammunition and food) for the fighting Warsaw. They have never expected the meeting. Today they met after 70 years in Warsaw.

Nowhere Man WorkHouse project's HEROES AMONG US presents eye-witness accounts of events from Polish and world history, collected and compiled by Polish-American youths at meetings with Heroes living Among Us in California. Today, on August 1st which marks the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising we would like to honor one of the heroes we cooperated with- outstanding individual Stanislaw Bala!

On August 1st which marks the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising we would also like to honor one of our own members of Polonia in California, Stanisław Bala who fought bravely during the insurgency. He was one of the original producers of insurgent newsreels which were used to produce the world's first feature film made entirely from documentary materials - 'Warsaw Uprising' by Jan Komasa.
Stanislaw Bala passed away last August. The short video below was prepared by Polish-American youths after the meeting with our hero in 2013.
