Mark Cuban Accepts Responsibility After Shocking Luka Doncic Trade
Luka Doncic is officially out of the Dallas Mavericks in the February trade. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers and soon became the face of the franchise. Recently, he signed a three-year, $165 million contract with the Lakers. But it seems like the Mavericks did not move on from their key presence.
Former Mavericks owner Mark Cuban recently opened up about the Doncic trade. He still thinks about it from time to time. Although he sold the majority stake in the team, Cuban feels some responsibility for not stepping up to stop the deal.
Speaking on the DLLS Mavs podcast, Cuban elaborated that backlash from fans is not new. He recalled similar reactions in the past. “They call it fan, and it’s short for fanatic, and that passion is a good thing. Those things dissipate with time. We were all hurt when Luka got traded. I, as much as anyone, because I felt I let people down by not being there. But what’s done is done,” Cuban said. “I heard that after Steve Nash, I heard that when we brought in Wang Zhizhi from China. I’ve heard that when players have done things that are controversial.”
As Doncic moves forward with his new home city, the Mavericks have nothing but regret. Cuban admits that trade can be handled differently and hopes the franchise can move forward.
