Rising jazz saxophonist and composer Boyce Griffith is proud to announce the release of his highly anticipated debut EP, "Tuning In," slated for release on May 31st, 2024 via Outside in Music. The 6-track EP serves as a formal introduction to Griffith's singular musical vision, seamlessly blending a broad array of grooves, melodies, and genres.
At its core, the EP spotlights the artist's deep reverence for groove and rhythm, with each composition anchored by the feel and swing of the drums. Drawing inspiration from jazz giants like Joe Henderson and Sonny Rollins, Griffith masterfully preserves the rhythmic sophistication and infectious swing that defined their legendary artistry.
"This EP is inspired by the feeling of meeting someone new," explains Griffith. "I wanted to formally introduce myself and my musical sensibilities to the world through tunes that encapsulate the broad scope of what's going on in my mind as a composer and arranger."
Standout tracks include the catchy "The Rule of Three," paying homage to the classic storytelling principle, and a joyous rendition of Curtis Mayfield's "The Makings of You," featuring Griffith's inspired arrangement.
Recorded with two distinct quintets comprised of some of the most formidable young talents in jazz today, "Tuning In" celebrates collaboration at its finest. While the compositions and arrangements are all penned by Griffith, the EP thrives on the unique musical personalities of extraordinary artists like trumpeters Anthony Hervey and Noah Halpern, pianists Isaiah J. Thompson and Brendan Polk, bassists Marty Jaffe and Raul Reyes Bueno, and drummers John Sturino and Jay Sawyer.
With "Tuning In," Boyce Griffith emerges as a vital new voice on the jazz scene, deftly channeling his boundless creative energy into a stunning debut that's sure to captivate audiences worldwide. Stay tuned!

Tone Forest is a contemporary jazz ensemble co-founded in 2018 by Miro Sprague (piano) Jason Ennis (guitar), and Marty Jaffe (bass). Drawing from jazz, world music and free improvisation, the trio cultivates a fresh sound that is adventurous, lyrical, and grounded in a deep sense of beauty and groove. Their collaboration stems back decades from their common roots in western Massachusetts, where they developed deep chemistry and a rich musical bond. Their debut album of original music, Tone Forest, will be released on Outside in Music on August 30, 2024.

Outside In Music is honored to release Bianca: Music for Paws and Persistence, GRAMMY-nominated drummer/composer Dan Pugach’s second album as a leader, on March 8, 2024. This is an extraordinary big band jazz project that finds its inspiration in a most unexpected place: animal rescue. Inspired by his own pitbull Bianca and fueled by his passion for animal rescue, Pugach masterfully draws upon his personal experiences to compose these works. Inspired by his companion, Dan wrote the title composition in her honor. He wrote the melody to match Bianca’s memorable and gentle demeanor. When Bianca passed in 2019, he rewrote the piece for big band, and it won the Charlie Parker Composition Prize and Manny Albam Commission for Big Band. This recognition helped catalyze Dan to turn his dog-inspired work into this honorific album.
