🇺🇸This past Saturday the President bestowed one of the nation’s highest honors to core members of the political, financial and celebrity establishment in the East Room of the White House. In previous years the award has been presented to a host of cultural, corporate and political figures, including Babe Ruth, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Julia Child and Maya Angelou.

Ralph Lauren became the first fashion designer to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom—chosen for his “extraordinary contributions as a visionary designer, trailblazing entrepreneur, innovative business leader, and dedicated philanthropist.” Upon receiving the award, Mr. Lauren said, “America is my country—my home and its history, traditions and values have always been an inspiration… As a proud American citizen, I accept it with gratitude and great humility.” Over the years the designer has dressed everyone from rockstars to royalty—politicians, princesses, national celebrities—some of the world’s most powerful people and even the US Olympic team. His contributions to American style, culture and society for more than six decades have earned him the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal, France’s Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, and an Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE).

David Lauren—Chief Branding and Innovation Officer of Ralph Lauren—was present for the ceremony and said, “When I think of my father I am always moved most by his humility and kindness. No matter the size of the honor or the accolades he has received, he has always been a dedicated father and husband and he has always understood how to create a world around him filled with love and warmth!”

⛸️ OPENED IN 1950 and named for the Wollman family who funded it, Wollman Rink is known for capturing both the bustling charm and delicate beauty of New York City in winter.
A glittering oasis amid the concrete chaos of Manhattan, it is a place where locals and tourists of all ages, shapes and sizes seek an outdoor moment of grace as they glide about in soft, practiced, swirls—momentarily untouched by the grit and clamor behind the surrounding rocks and trees. Generations of New Yorkers have fond memories of skating at the rink, not to mention its appearance in famous films like Love Story, Serendipity and Home Alone 2. Over the years, Wollman has been known to host countless romantic dates, family outings and holiday events, solidifying its reputation as a cherished NYC landmark.
Nestled in the heart of southern Central Park (near 59th Street), the rink’s connection to the city’s history makes it a symbol of New York’s resilience and allure. Remarkably blending city life with serene park views, Wollman offers unique outdoor experiences throughout every season. In the winter it is a vibrant skating destination, while in the warmer months the rink is transformed into New York City’s most iconic pickleball center. With fourteen new courts as part of a three-year collaboration with CityPickle (running through 2026), Wollman Rink provides visitors from near and far with the opportunity to participate in the nation’s fastest growing sport. At 74 years young, “Wollman” remains a treasured New York icon!

JANUARY QUEST, The Palm Beach Issue!🌴Allie Hanley graces the cover with her two daughters and five grandchildren. Palm Beach is unlike any other place in the world. A stretch of island barely 16 miles long and less than a mile wide, its natural beauty, temperate climate and architectural marvels—coupled with consummate dining, shopping and cultural attractions—comprise what few could deny is an unparalleled tropical paradise. That said, those who know Palm Beach well also know that at the heart of Palm Beach lies its loving and devoted families. For years, generations in Palm Beach have supported and sustained their cherished island and its surrounding communities by: contributing to wildlife and coral reef conservation; advocating for the preservation of Palm Beach’s original and historic architecture; supporting local animal shelters in the quest to harbor and find homes for lost or abandoned animals and provide assistance to families in need of help caring for cherished family pets; educating young (and old) minds about the wonders of science and natural history; contributing to Palm Beach’s compelling and inspired arts scene; fostering local youth groups focused on education and healthy future development; supporting local hospitals in their mission to help children suffering from heart disease and other life-threatening illnesses—and the list goes on… A happy and healthy community is a responsible one, a matter of course that tends to begin at the earliest age. Palm Beach’s thriving community is a testament to both its outer (and inner) beauty.

DECEMBER QUEST! 🐎🎄🎁
To embrace the holiday spirit, we ventured into the heart of Dutchess County for a glimpse of how country dwellers celebrate the season. Our day began at Brooke and Oliver Kennan’s Kinderbrook Farm in Clinton Corners, where preparations for an elegant dinner party were underway. We loaded Oliver’s vintage 1958 Chevrolet Apache with treasures from Ralph Lauren Home alongside pieces from Brooke’s Kinderbrook Home collection, a labor of love inspired by the timeless beauty of country living and her passion for their idyllic upstate retreat.
Next, we stopped in Millbrook at the beloved Orangerie Garden + Home, where we met ceramicist and weekend gentleman farmer Christopher Spitzmiller and his husband, Anthony Bellomo. Anthony, a landscape architect, gardener, and the proprietor of Orangerie—a popular garden shop and nursery—brought his expert touch to holiday decorating and spearheaded the design for our festivities.
Our journey continued to Smithfield Farms in Amenia, where we were hosted by Meghan & Adam Klopp. Meghan, founder of La Maison Communications and children’s book author, Friends of Wethersfield member, and recent co-chair of the 116th Millbrook Hunt Ball, arranged a picturesque ride down the road to a private club, aboard a vis-à-vis carriage, drawn by a pair of elegant Belgian Draft Horses.
We were also joined by Ashley Whittaker, local broker, interior designer, and author of The Well-Loved House, along with her husband, Andrew Spence.
The evening concluded back at the Klopp Family farm with a black-tie afterparty. 🌟

🐘Elephants are exceptional creatures. They love, they grieve, and they create deep family bonds. A strong matriarch leads the herd and calves are raised not solely by their mothers, but by their entire pack. The expression “an elephant never forgets” was aptly coined, as their mammoth brains allow them to remember friends and enemies, as well as essential food sources and watering holes, providing their survival in the wild.
Lovely Ruth Ganesh has spent the last 15 years championing the cause of these magnificent creatures, producing large-scale art exhibitions across the globe. She is photographed by at Gansevoort Plaza for Quest’s November cover beside a smiling matriarch named Tara. Part of the adventure, the herd is 100-strong, and arrived from Newport, RI, where the elephants began their journey on the 4th of July. They resided throughout NYC until October 20, at which point they continued to migrate across America, down to Miami Beach, FL, just in time for Art Basel. The herd includes baby calves, adolescents, matriarchs and full-grown “tuskers” (males with two full tusks, towering at 15 feet tall).
Elephants are constructed of the invasive w**d lantana, effectively removing the pestilent shrub and furthering a large-scale project of converting lantana into carbon-rich material that is buried in India to improve soil. Every “ellie” is given a name, and the artisans who craft them are familiar with the characters they construct. All elephants are for sale, and supporters have included everyone from Cher to Kristen Davis, to HM Queen Camilla to Newport’s Edith McBean. “The key,” points out Ganesh, is “coexistence”, which entails finding ways for people and elephants to share space without conflict, and beneficially. “India’s elephants are the poster child of this movement—they come from a place where the overlap is at its most extreme.” Ganesh brightly puts it: “With the herd, we’re trying to recreate that feeling of wonderment and connection. It’s an epic adventure, and eveyone’s invited.”

The August issue of Quest is out! Vincent Astor takes his dog for a walk in Marblehead, Massachusetts, August 1938. David Patrick Columbia tells the story of the American businessman and philanthropist, beginning with Astor’s 2nd marriage to Minnie Cushing Astor. At the time, Minnie—the eldest of 3 world-famous sisters—was 45, while her “growling” husband Vincent was 59. In his wry, clever and deliciously candid manner, Columbia recounts how it came to pass that by the Spring of 1950—around the time that brother and sister Sir Osbert and Dame Edith Sitwell were visiting the Vincent Astors at Ferncliff in Rhinebeck, NY, Minnie wanted a divorce. During the visit, Vincent uncharacteristically came to life over an anecdote involving the Eiffel Tower (although not enough to sway Minnie from her quest to separate from her then-husband). Vincent would go on to try his hand with Janet Stewart (widow of his friend William Rhinelander Stewart), considered the most beautiful woman in New York. Her reply? “Marry you? I don’t even like you; I’ve got enough so that I can take care of myself, why would I marry you?”
One block south of the Astor penthouse on East 85th and East End Avenue, a widow named Brooke Marshall lived in an apartment on Gracie Square. Her 1st marriage was “a nightmare” but her 2nd marriage to “Buddy” Marshall had been happy. Sadly, Buddy died on the 20th year of their marriage. When Brooke Marshall learned that Minnie had to find a wife for Vincent or she would not be granted a divorce, Brooke Marshall reasoned that being Mrs. Vincent Astor “wasn’t a bad idea.” So she volunteered to work at the private hospital where Vincent had checked in for a “rest.” The two got to know each other and before long, they were married. The rest was history. Brooke Astor’s marriage “changed her life” giving her “another kind of personality”. Vincent died a few years after their marriage—while Brooke devoted her time and considerable resources to New York’s less fortunate. “Power is the ability to do good things for others” the 104-year-old dowager once said Oil on canvas series of New York City 🖼️ by
