Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, have discussed the latest regional developments and efforts to ease tensions, according to Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said the two ministers stressed the importance of continued consultation and coordination, as well as supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at “de-escalation, protecting freedom of navigation, and maintaining security and stability in the region”.

Pezeshkian says ‘future of Iran will be shaped by the people of Iran’
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a statement, in which he praised the Iranian people as “heroes” for enduring the US-Israeli war on the country.

The president dated the beginning of the conflict back to the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh on July 31, 2024, while in Tehran to attend Pezeshkian’s own inauguration ceremony.

Despite having endured “wars, pressure, and relentless hostilities” since then, Pezeshian wrote on X, “the future of Iran will be shaped by the people of Iran”.

Israel claims killing of Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon
The Israeli army has claimed its troops killed several Hezbollah fighters in the Ali Taher Ridge, which is home to Lebanon’s UNESCO-listed Beaufort Castle, near the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.

In a statement on Saturday, the army said that as a result of the operation, “a combat officer was wounded in moderate condition.”

“The officer was evacuated to receive medical treatment at a hospital, and his family was notified,” the army added.

Lebanon’s Aoun calls Israeli attacks a ‘direct threat’ to agreement
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned the Israeli attack on southern Lebanon, saying explosions at Beaufort Castle – which is on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites – constituted a “highly dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of existing commitments”.

“The President of the Republic pointed out that the timing of these aggressions, on the eve of the scheduled session in Rome to complete discussions on the implementation of the Tripartite Framework of Operations, sends negative messages and undermines international efforts aimed at consolidating stability,” says a Lebanese presidency statement on X.

Aoun called on the international community and sponsoring parties to “assume their responsibilities and put an end to these violations that threaten opportunities for progress in the diplomatic path and undermine security and stability in southern Lebanon”.

Trump says war ‘going well,’ US troops ‘hitting Iran hard’
US President Donald Trump has told Fox News that Washington and Israel’s war on Iran is “going well”.

Speaking to the US channel’s senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich, Trump said US troops are hitting Iran “hard”.

“It’s going well. All you can do is keep winning, then eventually something will happen,” he said.

“But we’re hitting them hard, knocking them out for a loop, and we just keep winning. Eventually they’ll have no choice but to go home.”

Ben-Gvir says draft peace plan for Gaza ‘unacceptable to Israel’
Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir says the draft peace deal “is unacceptable to Israel”.

An agreement “to stop the assassinations” of Hamas members is “tantamount to agreeing to Hamas organising for the next massacre”, he posted on X.

“The assassinations in Gaza must continue, the encouragement of immigration must happen, Israel must win,” he said.

As we reported earlier, Israel’s former chief of staff and one of the contenders to replace Netanyahu, Gadi Eisenkot, wrote on X that any agreement that does not see “the destruction of Hamas’ military-governmental power or its dissolution … is a complete failure”.

“The fact that the prime minister chooses not to present the agreement to the Israeli public raises major question marks as to whether Israel is a partner in it or whether an agreement was once again forced upon Israel without its involvement,” he said.

Trump says Israel has been ‘very good’ about Hamas disarmament plan
Trump says there is an “understanding” with Israel when it comes to the Hamas disarmament plan and said that they have been “very good about it”.

“Most people said that would be a deal that would be undoable. Now, will it go through its ups and downs? It’s a very complex situation over there,” he said.

“It’s a great breakthrough; nobody thought that would be possible to disarm Hamas. That shows you how much success we’re having with Iran, because if you go [back] four months ago, five months ago, a deal like that would have been impossible. So, it’s a big step for the Middle East and people are impressed by it and surprised by it,” he added.

Former Israeli chief of staff says Netanyahu ‘capitulated’ on draft peace deal
Gadi Eisenkot says the draft peace plan has shown the “outrageous gap” between what Netanyahu promised and the reality of the situation.

“After the heavy prices, the fallen and the wounded, he has capitulated in his political weakness without achieving the war’s objectives, instead of ending it from a position of strength,” Eisenkot posted on X.

“Leaving Hamas in power in Gaza is the Netanyahu-Smotrich concept of preferring Hamas rule, which led to the disaster of October 7. The State of Israel must not accept a reality in which Hamas survives, rearms and waits for the opportunity to carry out the next massacre!”

Eisenkot added that Israelis deserved a leadership that “wins, tells the truth and stands by its goals. Israel must win, and it will win”.

Israeli drone strike injures several people in Deir el-Balah
Several people have been injured, some with serious wounds, following an Israeli drone strike on Deir el-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

Attacks have continued on the enclave today, with one person killed and others wounded in an Israeli air strike targeting Palestinians on Salah al-Din Street also in central Gaza.

A number of people, including a woman and a child, were wounded in an Israeli drone strike on the Intelligence headquarters area northwest of Gaza City.

Kuwait’s army chief of staff meets Saudi-led coalition on Bab al-Mandeb navigation
Kuwait’s chief of staff, General Khaled al-Shuraian, met defence officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss preserving freedom of navigation through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, Kuwait’s state news agency reported.

The meeting comes as Saudi Arabia moves to formalise a new multinational “maritime defence coalition” — to be based in Riyadh — aimed at protecting Red Sea shipping from Houthi attacks.

As many as 50 countries have reportedly been invited to join, including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt and Pakistan, with Washington’s participation seen as key to the initiative’s credibility.

The push follows the Houthis’ July 20 declaration of a “maritime blockade” on Saudi Arabia and subsequent missile and drone attacks on Saudi tankers, which have forced the kingdom to reroute more oil exports through the Red Sea via Yanbu, now partly under Houthi pressure, after the earlier closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
