Tonight, Mike Breen will call Game 2 of the NBA Finals on ESPN. This series marks his 21st NBA Finals, the most by any play-by-play announcer in league history. His broadcasting journey began at Fordham University in 1979, where he joined WFUV Sports. At the station, he called football and basketball games, hosted One on One, and met his lifelong friend, Michael Kay. Forty-six years later, Breen is the voice of the New York Knicks, and Kay is the television play-by-play commentator for the New York Yankees.

One of just three four-year WFUV’ers graduating this week, it would be an understatement to say that Chris Carrino has made the most of his time at the station.

“I had a vague idea of what my experience might be like going into college at WFUV due to my prior knowledge, but I couldn’t have ever imagined it to go as well as it has. From the experiences, to the lessons, to the friends, it has truly been unbelievable,” said Chris, a Communications major from New Jersey who has called game winners, covered big games, and mentored younger students in his WFUV tenure.

Chris, a Broadcast Advisor on leadership council this year, spent two years as a primary voice of Fordham Women’s Basketball before becoming one of the primary voices of both Fordham Football and Fordham Men’s Basketball for his senior campaign.

The coiner of several phrases since echoed many times throughout Keating Hall, Chris’ sharp wit and Ciceronian debate skills have distinguished himself as a top voice at the station.

Chris brings an infectuous joy and passion to his craft, and opportunities have followed. As a reporter, Chris has covered Yankees playoff games, Nets-Knicks battles, Heisman ceremonies, and even Super Bowl LX on Radio Row, where he got to watch his Seattle Seahawks hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Despite all that, Chris’ favorite memory remains the Big East Tournament. “I spent my whole life specifically wanting to go to the BET and then getting there in a professional sense on my own volition was amazing,” he reflected.

Outisde WFUV, Chris has called Brooklyn Nets games on the radio with his father, Chris Sr. (WFUV ’92), and interned at YES Network, where he continues to work during the 2026 season.

Chris is eager to continue charting his path in the industry in any fashion, with special interests in play-by-play broadcasting and sports talk.

“WFUV was the most amazing experience for me. As a kid who loves and wants to pursue Sports Media, WFUV is unmatched when it comes to opportunities. Whether that’s opportunities at specific experiences, friends, jobs, knowledge, and so much more. It was a time i’ll truly never forget. LONG LIVE FUV.”

Long live Chris Carrino.

⭐️ SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: BRENDAN SHOREY ⭐️

Our longest-tenured staffer alongside Owen and Chris, Brendan joined the station as a freshman and has turned in the widest-spanning body of reporting work in station history.

Brendan, who graduates in May with a BS in Finance, minor in Economics, and concentration in Sports Business, is the only FUV’er whose coverage has spanned multiple continents.

When abroad in London in the Fall of 2024, Brendan covered a Jets-Jaguars game at Wembley Stadium, the first time FUV has provided on-site coverage from Europe.

Brendan’s work has taken him anywhere from the MLB All-Star game in Arlington, Texas, to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, to Cooperstown, New York. What’s next? The Super Bowl in Santa Clara, CA.
“Getting to talk to Adrian Beltre at the MLB HOF Induction last summer [was my favorite memory]. Super Bowl next week has a chance to overtake it, though,” said Brendan, who hopes to continue working in the sports industry after graduating, whether in business or radio.

Our On-Air Advisor, Brendan has taken an unexpected on-air leap for the 2025-26 year: becoming one of our lead broadcast voices. “I never would’ve pictured myself as one of the voices of football or basketball,” said Brendan, whose coverage breakdowns and southern twang brought him the role of lead analyst this Fordham Football season.

“It’s been a blast getting to be behind the mic in all different sports and positions,” said Brendan, has also covered Fordham Baseball and Basketball.

“WFUV has meant the world to me. It has introduced me to so many cool people and given me experiences I could’ve never dreamed of. It was one of the reasons I came to Fordham, and for that I am eternally grateful. I will always cherish my time here.”

⭐️ SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: OWEN KELTY ⭐️

A cultural icon and station historian, Owen is in the final months of one of the most diverse and well-rounded careers an FUV’er could have.

“Joining my freshman year and now being here for 4 years, I have learned so much,” said Owen, who joins Chris and Brendan as our only four-year members.
As deliberate a radio producer as he is a morningtime brainrot consumer, Owen went from novice to expert in four years behind the board. As a senior, he’s risen to the role of Supervising Producer, providing the training and senior leadership necessary for our productions to succeed.

Aside from teaching trainees the board, Owen brings stories to the studios. Chronicles of the goings on of his “cottage” and his neighbors’ noisiness bring laughs to under-caffeinated Saturday morning crews.

Notoriously keen on “pushing buttons” on the production board, Owen’s on-air appearances are spectacles - rare chances to hear one of the station’s funniest members mix sports talk with humor.

Owen, who graduates this spring with a BA in DTEM and a minor in Sports Journalism, also rounds out his career with a stellar beat reporting resume. Owen is in his second full season as a New York Knicks reporter, and manned the New York Yankees beat for the 2025 season.

Heading to California to cover Super Bowl LX this Tuesday, Owen’s favorite WFUV memory so far was his trip to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony.

In true Owen fashion, his career plan is to “Hopefully get a job in production or social media (Someone please hire me).”

“Joining has been one of he best choices I have made at Fordham. I have met some of my closest friends and have gotten a chance over the years to learn so much about the sports media industry.”

We’ll miss you, Owen!
