Join us in wishing India Tiger a happy sweet 16th birthday!🎂🎀
India was rescued back in 2016 along with 15 other animals from a speed breeding/ pay-to-play facility that shut down. This facility had been housing 110 animals on just 4 acres of space. For some context, Carolina Tiger Rescue has 53 animals with over 65 acres. In addition to giving animals large species appropriate enclosures, we also give lots of enrichment to help keep their brains healthy and moving. Today India got to enjoy some stinky cardboard birthday enrichment!

Guru and Amir Tiger cooling off with a little pool time! 🐯💦
Unlike most cats, tigers are strong swimmers and regularly use rivers, lakes, and wetlands in the wild to cool off, travel, and even hunt.

This week’s is brought to you by Fabio Porcupine. 💚
Fabio recently enjoyed a special fruit treat and had a great time sorting through the assortment to find his favorite snacks. Porcupines are naturally curious foragers, and enrichment opportunities like this encourage natural behaviors while keeping them active and engaged.
This week, we're highlighting a few wishlist items that help our volunteers and staff care for the animals and maintain the sanctuary every day. These supplies may not be glamorous, but they play an important role in keeping both people and animals healthy, safe, and comfortable. 💚

What's in all those boxes we give our rescues? 📦👀
Enrichment comes in all shapes and sizes! Today, Simba Serval is enjoying some of his daily enrichment filled with exciting scents and serval-safe items to explore, investigate, and tear apart 🐾🧡
Providing daily enrichment is an important part of caring for the animals at the rescue. It encourages natural behaviors, keeps them mentally engaged, and gives them opportunities to interact with their environment in meaningful ways 🌿✨
A shredded box is a job well done! 😸📦

Happy World Wildlife Day from Samar Tiger!🌍🌱🌊🏜️
From the woods of North Carolina, to the jungles of Asia there are endless things we can thank the environment for. Each ecosystem on the planet provides valuable resources to both humans and animals. These environments can be delicate and sensitive and so it is important that we acknowledge that they too need our advocacy.🌍
Humans play a huge role in the environment, and it’s important that we consider how we can help protect these valuable ecosystems. At Carolina Tiger Rescue alone we have species that live in rainforests, jungles, deserts, woods, and more. By protecting these environments, we also protect the species that rely on them for shelter and survival. How can you help the environment today?💚💙

Samar Tiger was kind enough to give us a closer look. 🐅👅
A tiger's tongue is covered in tiny, backward-facing papillae made of keratin, the same material found in our fingernails. These structures give the tongue its rough, sandpaper-like texture and help with grooming and feeding.

Aspen Red Fox is munching on some frozen scrambled eggs to stay cool. Canines are omnivores, unlike cats they need plant material in addition to meat, so their diets are more varied.

🔵🏊‍♀️Saber Tiger's two favorite enrichment items are pools and boomer balls, so we combined them.
Tigers have partially webbed paws that make them strong swimmers. They've even been seen hunting in the water.

Winston Bobcat is taking it easy today, but he's still keeping an eye on everything happening around the sanctuary. 👀🐾
Bobcat fact: A bobcat's excellent hearing can help it detect prey hidden beneath leaves, grass, or even snow! 🍃😺
