Politics, Hospitality & Personality discussed on an upcoming episode of podcast by recorded at

How much more fun is it to attend a dinner party or a holiday party or even a private party with a bouncer at the door - rather than a sterile office meeting in a conference or board room?

We BOND by getting people IN THE ROOM 🍾 💥

Welcome to Skye’s Sundae Scoops 🍨 my weekly New York politics & government newsletter which helps readers get to know the people and personalities behind important local decisions

The newsletter has a 67% open rate, which I understand is magnificent, and sometimes I fall on the floor when I see some of the readers who subscribe!

It takes me hours each week to compile, going through my own notes and photos, text messages, emails, social media, and making sure I have the “who, what, when, where and why” of each item

I like to keep everything positive in here - no “gotcha” or scandals - simply showcasing who is with who and where and why and what they’re doing to improve the lives of New Yorkers. Too often is our news negative, biased or misunderstood, and I like to think of this newsletter as a unique blend of politics and personality from a fresh, on the ground perspective, written by someone who has great respect for our public servants (me!)

I accept scoops, photos, blurbs, events, and nominations for political personality of the week, on a rolling basis. There’s no cost to subscribe, and no paid advertising.

You can subscribe to the weekly newsletter at the link in my bio, or DM me your email and I’ll sign you up 🫶

Celebrating Jeff Rodus’s “retirement” featuring John Crotty’s Bronx made hot sauce 🌶️

I say “retirement” because if you know Jeff - he has decades of experience working in city and state government as well as behind the scenes - and every phone call becomes a 30-minute lesson in diplomacy. People like that simply just don’t retire!

Just looking at the crowd that came out for Jeff, you can see how many relationships he has, and lives and careers of others he’s influenced and impacted - from all levels and angles of government and politics ⭐️

Not only is there a new New Year’s Eve Ball at One Times Square - Jamestown is creating a year-round NYE experience, from a museum to a viewing deck and other surprises inside the building. It’s been decades since this building has been open to the public ✨🎆

Today is the 23rd anniversary of my Bat Mitzvah - which is a very Jewish way of saying it’s the 23rd anniversary of my 13th birthday…

Nothing mystical, nothing secret - just the coming-of-age party Jews throw for teens, somewhere between a high school exam and a big party for your parents friends.

Mine literally was a black tie gala in my honor, and yes, I fully intend to have another one as an adult… and still wear orange

I’m sharing it because I want Judaism to feel as normal as a Sweet Sixteen or quinceañera and because I’ve never been good at following the standard life script

If my life has a theme, it’s “try everything” - inspired by the Zootopia song “Try Everything”: keep experimenting, keep becoming, let your milestones be the moments you choose, not just the ones everyone expects...

This means a lot to me heading into Thanksgiving… Try everything… family, friends, food, bonding….

And if you want to hear more of my thoughts: subscribe to my newsletter 🔗 Skye’s Sundae Scoops 🍨

I was invited to The National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University’s Celebration of Suburban Diversity where guests were encouraged to dress in ethnic attire!

In case you are as curious as I was to see how others interpreted the dress code, I captured photos and asked guests about their outfits:

Shanna from the Shinnecock Nation wore an outfit she made herself. She not only grew up on the reservation, but also raised her kids there, multiple generations of her family still live on Shinnecock land. Kids on the reservation attend Southampton Public Schools, and while she missed The Palm Tree Festival this year, she’s already planning to be there in 2026.

Dafny Irizarry, President of the Long Island Latino Teachers Association, representing her Puerto Rican heritage and the educators working every day for students across Long Island.

Shahzadi-Zenab is a 10th grade student at New Hyde Park High School and the winner of the Four Leaf Federal Credit Union High School Diversity Essay Contest.

Nora DeDontney, Senior Director of Development at Vineyard Offshore, wore a skirt her mother - a seamstress - made for her. Nora still sews some of her own clothes and quilts in her spare time, carrying on that craft across generations.

Aisha showed up in a joyful skirt from the NY&Co x Gabrielle Union Collection - a reminder that celebrating culture and identity can also look like supporting designers and collections that make us feel fully ourselves.

Members of the New York Chinese Chorus, an organization founded by former NYC Council Member Peter Koo, that shares Chinese culture through song and performance.

Alex Bryant is a former Suffolk County Corrections Officer, a self-taught fashionista, and a pastor. He’s wearing his signature tie knot (he even has a tutorial on Facebook) and cuff links he made himself - from clip-on earrings.

Beverly is a former NYPD photographer who now works independently, shooting everything from Hofstra University events to projects connected to Pan Am’s legacy, and is wearing a patterned skirt with a matching scarf.
