🎶 DID YOU KNOW? Drake & Rihanna’s Take Care traces back to Mississippi roots.

✨ Bobby “Blue” Bland — the “Lion of the Blues” — brought soul + storytelling that shaped R&B.
🎸 B.B. King — straight out of the Delta — carried the blues worldwide.

The track samples Gil Scott-Heron’s “I’ll Take Care of You,” which came from Bland’s version. And Bland & King often toured together, building the bridge today’s artists stand on.

From the Delta to the charts, Mississippi’s sound will forever live on in the music that we love today. The culture and sound will never die- it evolves.

Here are a few opportunities for artists and creatives around the ‘Sipp! If you don’t see anything for you, be sure to send this to someone or tag us in opportunities you come across!

[1] The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience is hiring for an Executive Assistant and a Programs Coordinator/Manager. For full listings of jobs, and to apply, visit their page for more information.

[2] The ACLU of Mississippi is looking for a talented Videographer/Storyteller to help bring voices to life through their Trans Storytelling Project

[3] Refill Jackson Initiative is currently recruiting for their next cohort. They offer two programs, a 4-week Pre-Employment Training, with the option to continue in a 3-month On-The-Job Work Experience.
Both components offer a modest living stipend, along with wrap-around social services to address barriers to employment such as housing and food insecurity, access to healthcare, transportation, assistance with childcare, and obtaining vital documents such as a Driver’s License, birth certificate, social security card, etc. For people between the ages of 18-26. 

[4] The Braiding Seeds Fellowship, a project of Soul Fire Farm Institute in collaboration with the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund, uplifts and supports beginning Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color farmers, growers, and land stewards across the Northeast and Southeast of the US who are committed to advancing food sovereignty, cultural preservation, and community care.
