We take what we’ve learned and we dream big about what stories we can bring to life. The thing about being an incubator is it takes time for ideas to, well, incubate, and 2024 was when we really hit the ground running with exciting projects of our own. These are some of the questions that have guided us to what we’re working on now, and where we’re looking in the near future. We aren’t even at the point of a teaser trailer yet, but let’s just say the competition’s on, the spotlight has gone rogue, and the aliens aren’t what they seem…

We connect with creatives and share what we’ve discovered, working towards a more impactful ecosystem together. There are a lot of big questions about where our industry goes from here, and we never want to isolate ourselves, keeping our ideas behind closed doors. From Los Angeles to NYC, Seattle to Austin, Cannes to Sundance, getting out into the community with you all is what energizes our work! We have a lot waiting in the wings for how we can continue showing up for storytellers, and can’t wait to share more in the new year.

We want to inspire and be inspired. We learned a lot about film over our first 17 years, but as good stories lead us to new mediums it’s been a thrill to connect with all kinds of storytellers. We’ve been particularly interested in the exciting world of gaming, and thanks to our partnership with Anima Interactive, our two Game Jams gave us a lot of insights into how gamers think about story. We challenged teams to quickly create a prototype interpreting our research on justice and climate narratives, and loved sharing those games with people at SXSW and the Hollywood Climate Summit! Congratulations again to our two winners, Pip Pepper Park Planner and Maybe We Saved the World.

We research how stories can have the biggest impact on shifting culture. This year, we set our sights on storytelling about the climate crisis, exploring how we can reach broader audiences and uplift untold perspectives. We began digging into making media for young people. We incubated projects that applied last year’s research on shifting portrayals of civic leaders on screen. And we got a little meta with it while understanding how to best share our findings with the creative community. We’re bridging the gap between the research process and the creative process and looking forward to seeing where our curiosity takes us next year!

For our Just Play Game Jams, we equip video game developers with a toolkit of takeaways we’ve learned from our research into how to make media that bridges the gap between impact storytelling and popular entertainment. Our latest Jam focused on narratives about the climate crisis, bolstered by insights we found in partnership with Good Energy. We weren’t only thinking of video games, though — we’d love to see how storytellers working in any medium would be inspired by our findings!
