Did you know that for many years it was thought that outlaw Billy the Kid was left handed? It was not until an observant historian eventually noted a problem with the photograph: the 1873 Winchester didn’t have a loading gate on the left side. The picture was reversed.

This Smith and Wesson Model 29 was used by Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry and Magnum Force (1972). It was a gift from Eastwood and Warner Brothers to film writer / director John Milius, who wrote significant parts of Dirty Harry and is credited with writing the screen play for Magnum Force. GUN OF THE DAY – Burnside Carbine

Happy birthday NRA! In honor of the National Rifle Association’s founding on November 17, 1871, today’s special GOTD is the Burnside Carbine. One of the most innovative breechloaders used during the Civil War, the GOTD was the invention of the NRA’s first president, Major General Ambrose Everett Burnside.

Burnside not only developed his unique name-sake single-shot, breechloading percussion rifle, but also its equally distinctive, cone-shaped brass cartridge that inserted – tapered base first – into a correspondingly shaped breechblock. While production started off slow, by 1864 more than 40,000 .54 caliber carbines had been manufactured and issued to many cavalry regiments throughout the war. Earlier in 1861 when some of the first examples went to the First Rhode Island Infantry as they participated in the opening engagements on July 21st.

Want to see a great Burnside? Plan a pilgrimage to the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, MO to do just that.

GUN OF THE DAY ̶ Kreighoff Neptun Primus

Some folks enjoy seeing great checkering on wood and fine engraving. Our GOTD provides those attributes in abundance and three barrels besides.

Kreighoff’s factory in Ulm, Germany must be something like Santa’s workshop year round with fantastic guns being made. But bear in mind – they only produce 2,000 pieces annually. Their Neptune model line was started after WWII and was even offered in a Dural (aluminum) frame variation. From visitor comments, we think the elaborate deep relief engraving on this steel frame drilling is just fine as it is.

Plan a trip to the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia and you’ll be glad you did!

It's Movie Monday! This week, check out the famous gun from The Alamo, from the NRA Museums.

The Alamo (1960)
Richard Widmark as Jim Bowie
Nock Volley Gun - .52 caliber

Slightly more than six hundred of these original flintlock Nock volley guns were sold to the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Henry Nock's seven-barreled smoothbore was specifically intended to be fired from the rigging down onto the deck against boarders. This formidable gun was wielded by Richard Widmark as frontiersman Jim Bowie several times in repelling Mexican attackers in this 1960 film version of The Alamo. Designed to fire all seven barrels simultaneously, concussion and recoil were devastating.

Anyone have an idea on the price of this pair of 1885 Winchester Shuetzen Rifles? They are in 38-55. Assuming they are original not restored. Will put my hands on them later today to inspect. Not sure what to offer.
can you give me some information on a 1930 Daisy cork gun please?
