Plane carrying singer Rey Vaqueiro veers off runway and catches fire during landing in Rio Grande do Norte.
An executive jet carrying singer Rey Vaqueiro went off the runway and caught fire during landing in the early hours of this Sunday (13), in Parelhas, in the Seridó region, in Rio Grande do Norte. The artist had a performance scheduled to take place in the city.
Besides the singer, five other people were on board the aircraft, along with the pilot and co-pilot. Everyone managed to escape before the flames spread. There were no reports of injuries.
Although the occupants escaped, the plane was destroyed by the fire. Following the incident, the Fire Department contacted the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), which is responsible for investigating aeronautical occurrences.
According to information from the Brazilian Aeronautical Registry (RAB), the aircraft involved in the accident has registration number PP WMO and is a Cessna 550 Bravo, manufactured in 2006, with a capacity for eight passengers.
Hours before the incident, Rey Vaqueiro had performed in Moreno, Pernambuco. Following that, the singer and his team went to Parelhas, where he had a show scheduled for 2:30 AM this Sunday.
After the incident, the artist, team members, and crew were taken to the Parelhas Municipal Hospital for medical evaluation. Everyone had managed to safely evacuate the aircraft before the fire spread further.
The mayor of Parelhas, Tiago Almeida, also spoke out after the incident. On social media, he posted a photo alongside Rey Vaqueiro and members of the health team who provided assistance after the accident.
The circumstances that caused the aircraft to leave the runway are still to be clarified. The aeronautical investigation will analyze the factors involved in the incident.
