Inspiration for Fall On Me was taken from many different genres of movies and television shows. Writer & Director Isaac F. Davis stated, “If you are looking to create something familiar, yet unique, its good practice to pull from multiple films and television shows that inspire you. I always think about crossing over live-action and animation content together when possible. It’s shocking to me how many people either forget or ignore the incredible work being done with animation in terms of color, shot composition, tone, and pace. Let me add, I’m talking about films and TV pre-2000s. Both The Prince of Egypt (1998) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) were massive inspirations for me while I was writing the script. I found that studying this content helped me understand and solidify a structure of what the world looked like around Atticus and Ava, while giving the story a familiar feel and pace to the audience. Films like Unstoppable (2010) and The Dark Knight (2008) come from directors Tony Scott (may he rest in peace) and Christopher Nolan who understand how to lean hard into the worlds they create around their characters. Whether it be a massive locomotive out of control on a railway, or a hero reflecting on his pain and loss of hope, you feel it, you feel the energy, the emotions, you feel the camera movements, you feel the story. That is what makes a movie special. That’s what I’ve strived to do with Fall On Me. I can only hope the audience will agree with me!”
