Road to ASCA National✨: CVI Vet Check 🩺

This year due to the New World Screwworm Infestation, ASCA required all dogs competing to get a Certified Veternarian Inspection to be eligible to compete. This is to keep dogs safe, and here is my experience. I wish I could’ve recorded the process, but it was fairly self explanatory.

Never forget.

I was only in first grade on September 11, 2001. I remember sitting in my classroom, confused, as my teacher rolled the TV into the room. I remember watching as the second tower was hit, too young to fully understand what I was seeing, but old enough to know something was terribly wrong.

Not long after, school was cancelled. My mom picked me up and took me home. We were all the way across the country in Arizona, yet even there, everything stopped.

I didn’t understand the magnitude of that day then. But I remember the feeling. The confusion. The fear. The heaviness in the adults around me.

25 years later, I stood at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.

The thing I remember most was how quiet it felt. In the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world, standing where the towers once stood, it was just… quiet.

And suddenly, that feeling I remembered from being six years old was back.

This time, I understood it.

I understood the magnitude of the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes & especially the dogs who ran toward danger.

25 years later, we remember.
