Phoebe Buffay almost had a very different romantic ending on Friends. Co-creator David Crane later revealed that the writers genuinely went back and forth over whether Phoebe should end up with David or Mike.

David, played by Hank Azaria, had been one of Phoebe’s most memorable early relationships before leaving for Minsk. When he returned, the door was still open for them.

Azaria later suggested that Paul Rudd’s chemistry and popularity as Mike helped shift the story in Mike’s favor. Crane confirmed either ending was seriously considered, but ultimately Phoebe chose Mike, and the two married during the final season.
