Coco Chanel’s relationship with the Hôtel Ritz Paris is easily one of the most legendary residencies in fashion history. Though she kept a gorgeous apartment just across the street at 31 Rue Cambon for working and entertaining, she officially moved into the Ritz in 1937 and stayed for a staggering 34 years.

She famously claimed the hotel was her true home, and she lived there right up until she passed away in her suite on January 10, 1971.

Her time there wasn't just a standard hotel stay: she completely transformed her space with her own belongings. She brought in her signature Coromandel lacquered screens, rock crystal chandeliers, and gilded mirrors to make it feel authentic to her style.

The location even influenced her brand’s identity, as the octagonal shape of the Place Vendôme, which her windows overlooked, eventually inspired the design of the Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle stopper.

Following the hotel's massive 2016 renovation, the Ritz dedicated Suite 202 as the Coco Chanel Suite. Reimagined with help from Karl Lagerfeld, the 1,900-square-foot space stays true to her black, white, and beige palette and features her original sketches.

It remains one of the most exclusive stays in the world, often priced at over 40,000 euros a night.
