Bittersweet! Red Thread would like to share that our latest short documentary, Spinnaker, had been selected to be a part of the 2020 Lake Arrowhead Film Festival. However, due to current circumstances, the festival has been postponed.

We are honored by the selection, and while it is heartbreaking to hear of the postponement, we are hopeful toward a future where we can all come together soon. Stay safe and stay strong until then.

Documenting History Through Photography

We were very fortunate to be part of "In the Room with David Kennerly featuring Jon Meacham at The University of Arizona on C-Span3. Check it out!

Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer David Hume Kennerly talks with historian Jon Meacham about his more than 50-year-long photography career.

Red Thread is proud to be part of “In the Room with David Hume Kennerly Featuring Jon Meacham Presented by Bank of America", a free special event at Centennial Hall on Friday, October 11 at 7:00pm.

Twenty-five of David Hume Kennerly's most memorable images, selected to show the breadth and diversity of his vision, will be on display in the University of Arizona's Old Main beginning on Friday, October 11. In "David Hume Kennerly: Witness to History", we see a tender view of Arizonan Linda Ronstadt and intense pictures of Vietnam soldiers. The august and commanding portrait of five presidents in the Oval Office contrasts with the arrested action of Kennerly’s prize-winning frame of the Mohammad Ali-Joe Frazier fight. His images of the government include President Trump taking office and portraits of Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Kennerly provides access to scenes most of us can only imagine. These photographs capture telling moments of the late twentieth and early twenty first century, and are critical visual documents for students, scholars, and historians. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the install process that took place earlier this week.

As a component of the University of Arizona's Family Weekend celebration, an additional 63 images will be presented in an outdoor, pop-up exhibition along the UA Mall. The display will run Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13 only. Integrated into the activities of this popular fall event, Kennerly's work will be introduced to the campus community for students, parents, staff, faculty, and visitors to experience and enjoy.

Works from both exhibitions will be discussed during “In the Room with David Hume Kennerly Featuring Jon Meacham Presented by Bank of America", a free special event at Centennial Hall on Friday, October 11 at 7:00pm. Please join us.

Women's Media Summit: The Women’s Media Summit includes movie-makers, academics, lawmakers, business professionals and supporters to build strategies that end gender inequity in American film and television. The Summit documents gender disparities in media. Although 50% of film school graduates are women only 7% of the 250 top-grossing American films in 2016 were directed by women. Few women hold power positions in film or television; women protagonists are under-represented; and female characters seen in Hollywood films are often stereotyped. In pursuit of gender equality, in 2017 the Summit identified seven ways to end discrimination, and the Women’s Media Action Coalition (WeMAC) was created to implement action plans. The 2018 Summit will focus on these action plans created last year to fight employment discrimination in Hollywood.

Last night we celebrated David Kennerly and the acquisition of his archive by The University of Arizona and the Center for Creative Photography with the "In The Room" event at Centennial Hall. Great thanks to our team at Red Thread - Art Director Maureen Sternin, Director Phil Allocco and of course my partner in crime Nadine Licostie. This event would not have been possible without the partnership of the University of Arizona / The Center for Creative Photography and event sponsor Bank of America. A special thanks to David and Rebecca Kennerly for trusting us with this special project.
