“The stakes have never been higher.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomes the announcement of an agreement to secure a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza.

“The suffering must end,” stressed the Secretary-General, adding:

“I urge all concerned to abide fully by the terms of the agreement. All hostages must be released in a dignified manner. A permanent ceasefire must be secured. The fighting must stop once and for all.”

Join us in congratulating Olukemi Ibikunle of Nigeria on receiving the UN Trailblazer Award for Women Justice and Corrections Officers.

Believing that peace begins behind prison walls, her work as a corrections officer focuses on reshaping prison strategies to promote safety, dignity and rehabilitation.

“More than an award, this moment represents visibility and recognition of the countless women and girls whose voices are often silenced and whose dreams are constrained by societal expectations,” she said.

From satellites enabling climate monitoring to navigation systems guiding humanitarian aid, our world depends on outer space. But increased access and activity are putting its safety and sustainability at risk.

We must act now to secure our cosmic future.

To that end, world leaders adopted the Pact for the Future in 2024, committing to safe, sustainable exploration — a promise that must now be realized.

At the same time, United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is working to keep space secure and accessible for future generations.
