Ryan Coogler is the Blueprint!

With Sinners, he didn’t just drop a film—he dropped a standard.

He shot on 65mm. Told a Southern Gothic vampire story rooted in his history. Negotiated a deal where he gets paid before the studio—and will own the rights in 25 years!

Can you say, Black excellence on every level.

Here’s what every filmmaker should learn from him:
✅ Know your craft—study the camera like your name depends on it.
✅ Make it personal—your story is the magic.
✅ Own your work—don’t give it all away for access.
✅ Treat sound like a main character—Coogler always does.
✅ Break the rules—genre is yours to remix.
✅ Think long game—every frame is part of your legacy.

Coogler is showing us what happens when skill meets strategy, and THIS is what building Black cinematic power looks like.

Forgiveness, in the context of love, is one of the central themes beautifully captured in the HBO-selected short film Chocolate with Sprinkles, directed by Huriyyah Muhammad. Inspired by her parents’ story, the film follows a married couple who run a donut shop and are put in a particularly peculiar situation

We sat down with producer Yha Mourhia Wright to speak on her experience creating this film and how it shifted her thoughts around love and partnership.
