Senegal welcomed the Youth Olympic flame with a celebration rooted in its own history, and what a welcome it was.

On Saturday, 12 September, 100 women dressed in traditional boubous walked through parts of Dakar before joining the ceremony near Place du Souvenir Africain on the Corniche.

According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the procession honoured the Linguères, women who held power and an important place in Senegalese kingdoms. Their presence gave the occasion a distinctly Senegalese character and offered the world a glimpse of the traditions behind the welcome.

The flame’s arrival comes as the Dakar 2026 Organising Committee, working with the IOC, progresses through the final operational preparations for the Games. Behind the celebrations, teams are getting ready to receive athletes, officials and visitors ahead of the opening ceremony on 31 October.

From 31 October to 13 November 2026, Senegal will host the first Olympic sporting event on African soil. It is a moment we can all look forward to with pride.

Samukonga Among World’s Elite Chasing US$150,000 Ultimate Title

Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga belongs among the world’s best, and his selection for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship provides further recognition of his standing.

The Olympic bronze medallist is listed to compete in the men’s 400m in Budapest, Hungary, at the championship running from 11–13 September 2026.

He joins a strong field featuring world and Diamond League champion Collen Kebinatshipi (Botswana), Olympic silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith (Great Britain), Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago), Rai Benjamin (USA), Zakithi Nene (South Africa) and Bayapo Ndori (Botswana).

Also listed are Jacory Patterson, Khaleb McRae, Chris Bailey, Lee Eppie, Attila Molnár, Christopher Morales Williams, Jonas Phijffers, Yuki Joseph Nakajima, Muhammad Abdallah Kounta and Patrik Simon Enyingi. With this depth of talent, securing a place in the final will be fiercely contested.

The championship brings together Olympic champions, world champions, Diamond League winners and leading athletes selected through the world rankings. Muzala’s inclusion reinforces what his Olympic bronze already demonstrated: he can compete at the highest level of the men’s 400m.

At stake are the inaugural men’s 400m Ultimate Champion title and a winner’s prize of US$150,000. Second place receives US$75,000 and third US$40,000, drawn from the championship’s overall US$10 million prize fund. Every participating athlete receives prize money.

For Muzala, Budapest offers another opportunity to race against fellow world-class athletes and represent Zambia on a global stage. For young Zambian athletes watching, his journey offers encouragement that they, too, can earn their place at this level.

A day inside the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games - from leaving the hotel and making our way across Glasgow to experiencing the athletics action at Scotstoun Stadium.

The 200m semifinals brought plenty of energy, and I managed to capture some of the action from trackside.

I rarely comment publicly on politics, but this is one issue I felt compelled to write about from a communications perspective.

Zambia’s 2026 General Elections have drawn significant attention, and one thing has become increasingly clear to me: when institutions do not communicate quickly, clearly and consistently, others begin to shape the story for them.

As a Zambian living in the diaspora, I have seen how headlines, statements, allegations and information gaps can influence how the country is perceived internationally.

I’m not taking any political sides. My concern is the importance of proactive communication, institutional coordination and protecting a national reputation that has taken decades to build.

Congratulations to His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election.

At Tunta Sports + Entertainment, we are encouraged by the continued effort to create an environment where entrepreneurs, start-ups and young businesses can dream, build and grow.

Thank you, Zambia!

We are truly humbled by the trust you have placed in our hands, to hold our nation's highest office and to be your servant, once more.

This election showed the world who we are: a nation of peace, a nation of law and order, a democratic nation that settles our differences at the ballot box, and nowhere else.

Over these months we have travelled to all 116 districts, to our nation's cities, our compounds, our villages, and our farms. We saw first-hand the challenges that our people are facing, and we resolved to work with you to solve these challenges, together.

To those citizens who preferred the ideas presented by our opponents, we hear you, and we will continue to work for you to ensure that every Zambian benefits from the development we are delivering.

As we return to work as your servant, we carry with us the memories of the children we met throughout the campaign, and we commit to building a better Zambia for all of you to inherit.

Fellow citizens, we love you, we care for you, and we have heard you clearly.

Now we must work harder than ever before to deliver meaningful development for every single Zambian, in every corner of our country.

Indeed, we will devote all our energies to development and progress, strengthened by unity, cooperation and our shared purpose as one nation.

Adding to the ongoing political commentary, the election results we are seeing so far are unsurprising.

First, it was widely anticipated that the sitting Members of Parliament would have a difficult time retaining their seats. The electorate's displeasure was clear as day.

Second, regarding the UPND winning the presidential vote on the Copperbelt, this race was always poised to be a tight contest. Remember that a sitting president was 'stoned' during a visit there, which should have been a telling sign.

Third, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Honourable ‘Chilimo limo’ on her victory.

In conclusion, all signs point to the UPND securing the presidential vote.

Let love and peace lead.
One Zambia, One Nation.
