The Brave

Seen here: The Braves of 9/11, a mural inspired by a photo taken by Matthew McDermott. It shows a grieving and exhausted firefighter, Mike Bellantoni. The number on the fireman's helmet refers to the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Ways to commemorate:

💙Visit the September 11th Memorial: The memorial features two pools that sit in the footprints of the former North and South Towers. The Memorial is closed on the morning of 9/11 for the ceremony and family visitation. The memorial opens to the public at 3pm.

💙Visit the Empty Sky Memorial in Jersey City: The brushed stainless steel twin walls are 30 feet tall and 210 feet long, the width of each side of the World Trade Center Towers.

💙Visit the Postcards Installation on Staten Island: The Staten Island 9/11 Memorial is located on the waterfront, framing One World Trade Center and Lower Manhattan

💙See the Tribute in Light: a commemorative public art installation presented every year from dusk to dawn, on the night of Sept 11th. The installation consists of twin beams that reach four miles into the sky, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers. (Featured yesterday)

💙See the Skyline in Blue: the tribute will be extended across the city with over 30 landmarks also lighting up in blue. Participating buildings include the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, One Vanderbilt, and many more.

Note: The 9/11 Memorial Museum is closed today for family visitations.
