FREE FUN IN NYC: Vintage Volkswagen Car Show on Governors Island 🚙

SLUG BUG! Scenes from VW Grid­lock, an epic vin­tage
Volk­swa­gen car show taking place on Governors Island. The show features over 75 unique, vin­tage Volk­swa­gens from across the years, includ­ing icon­ic mod­els like the Bee­tle, Bus, Kar­mann Ghia, and Thing. Many of the cars have open doors! They are open to explore, and the friendly owners/collectors are on hand to chat and answer any questions. Fun for all ages!

We stumbeled upon the cars randomly while on a family bike ride, didn’t even know it was happening! We heard it’s an annual show, will be sure to share ahead of time before the next event. 🙌

Discover the magic of larger-than-life, eco-friendly balloon sculptures at this NYC pop-Up experience. Over 600,000+ balloons will be used to create larger than life immersive installations at this pop up coming to NYC this July. With games, food and special surprises - Balloon Story is fun for all ages!

Transport yourself to a balloon jungle, swim through inflatable seascapes, and wonder your way through the air-filled maze, and play family-friendly interactive games for all! It’s sure to be a kaleidoscope of air-filled wonder.

Paddling into the Weekend 🛶

The FREE Kayaking at Downtown Boathouse is officially open for the season!

Kayak down the river with a view of the Manhattan skyline and the Freedom Tower - does it get better than that?

All season long Pier 26 Boathouse offers (FREE!) kayaking on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays from 10am - 4:30pm. This popular program allows visitors to connect with the waterfront, and learn about the Hudson River. The Downtown Boathouse provides all necessary safety equipment, changing rooms, lockers and locks, sunblock, and first aid equipment.

WHERE:📍Pier 26. N Moore and West Street - adjacent to the popular Pier 25 Playground area

WHEN: ⏰From May 18 - October 14. Weekends and Holidays. 10am-4:30pm (Last boat goes out at 4:30pm). Just come on by, no reservations needed.

PRICE: 🎟Absolutely FREE! First come first serve. Ride time 20 minutes.

FOR KIDS: 🎈One child allowed per boat. If the child is under 13, they must go with a guardian. Life jackets provided. Every participant must sign a waiver, and every participant must know how to swim.

WHERE TO NEXT: 🧭Swing into fun at the Pier 25 Mini Golf course before playing away the day at the amazing Pier 25 Playground and the new Science Playground (shaped like a fish!) just steps away.

Vessel Reopening

Hudson Yards has announced that the Vessel will be reopening later this year.

The centerpiece of the Hudson Yards complex is this spiral staircase known as The Vessel. Comprised of 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs, the Vessel has almost and 2,500 individual steps - which is more than the Empire State Building.

The structure has been closed since 2021. The structure will reopen with important safety changes in place - including floor-to-ceiling steel mesh will be installed on nearly every level. The top floors will remain closed to the public.

RAIN or SHINE! The Queens Botanical Garden Pumpkin Patch is back for the harvest season!
Visit for fun harvest-themed photo opportunities and activities such as planting seeds, crafting, autumn-themed book readings, and be sure to meet and take pictures with the friendly costumed nature creatures roaming the Farm!  Children (age 4 and older) get to pick their very own pumpkin. For guests aged 21 and over, there’s a selection of harvest and pumpkin-themed beers and ciders for purchase. Mark those calendars! The Garden’s popular Halloween celebration returns on October 29th (separate ticket required!).

Seen here: The Braves of 9/11, a mural inspired by a photo taken by Matthew McDermott. It shows a grieving and exhausted firefighter, Mike Bellantoni. The number on the fireman's helmet refers to the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Ways to commemorate:

💙Visit the September 11th Memorial: The memorial features two pools that sit in the footprints of the former North and South Towers. The Memorial is closed on the morning of 9/11 for the ceremony and family visitation. The memorial opens to the public at 3pm.

💙Visit the Empty Sky Memorial in Jersey City: The brushed stainless steel twin walls are 30 feet tall and 210 feet long, the width of each side of the World Trade Center Towers.

💙Visit the Postcards Installation on Staten Island: The Staten Island 9/11 Memorial is located on the waterfront, framing One World Trade Center and Lower Manhattan

💙See the Tribute in Light: a commemorative public art installation presented every year from dusk to dawn, on the night of Sept 11th. The installation consists of twin beams that reach four miles into the sky, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers. (Featured yesterday)

💙See the Skyline in Blue: the tribute will be extended across the city with over 30 landmarks also lighting up in blue. Participating buildings include the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, One Vanderbilt, and many more.

Note: The 9/11 Memorial Museum is closed today for family visitations.
