Marching Band fundamentally changed as an activity when the idea of competition was introduced. Was it a change for the better?

Does the general consensus agree that there is a general lack of physicality that leaves kids ill prepared for Band Camp?

Shout out and thanks to the Arizona Marching Band Association for having me out today to speak to an incredible group of boosters from all over Arizona. It was a committed group of individuals hungry to learn and ready to do the work to take their programs to the next level.

Kudos to AzMBA for understanding the importance of investing in boosters / band parents. Every successful program is supported by a successful booster program. Nurturing that relationship can only lead to good things!

These kids deserve better. This is not acceptable. If we have anyone in that area who can share the best means of support please let us know.

Parents what % of the time do you believe your kid caused a reported problem versus blaming the educator themselves? Is Scott right does that change based on more parental experience?

There is so much more at stake when kids have a bad music teacher / band director as compared to other subjects.

You heard your mother, go get certified!🤣🤣!

Scott & Chris - I told you that I’d do it. Today I earned my Certificate of Awesomeness and know much, MUCH more about judging and scoring a marching band than I ever have. I can honestly say I don’t think I’ll look at shows the same way ever again. 🙈🙈🙈 IDK if that’s a good or bad thing. 😂 P. S. If you want a crash course on adjudication, check out Episode 3 (“Do you hear what I hear?”) of The Band Dad’s Podcast.

Indoor season has come to an end and what a fantastic season it was. If you don't know, my home community is the Basha Bands family and they surprised the heck out of me Saturday night by submitting nominations that led to the honor of being named the 2026 WGAZ Volunteer of the Year. Basha families you are incredible, our community is so very special and I appreciate you more than you know. I humbly accept this award but also dedicate it back out to the THOUSANDS of volunteers, boosters, parents, students, and family members who pour their love into our band programs. None of it is possible without all of you so this is absolutely for you as well. WGAZ - Winter Guard Arizona it was such a delight to work with you all this season, thank you for providing a platform for these performers to display the love they have for music and marching arts.
thank you for being a bro and capturing this moment that I did not know would even exist.
Good luck in Dayton everyone!!
