Fear! Horror! Terror! In Tim Kochenderfer's SUPER SCARY, that's what the Storyteller wanted for his night of spooky tales. But everyone in the theater, including a vacuuming janitor and an audience member who really has to p*e, keeps interrupting to share their own, less-than-chilling versions of the stories. This Hallow's Eve, we meet a town that can't tell the difference between a witch and a thunderstorm, a jack-o-lantern who is constantly p*er-pressuring the devil, and a Frankenstein monster at the center of a high school romantic rivalry. A Halloween comedy that will leave you screaming with laughter!

Today we're spotlighting A VOICE IN THE DARK: A SALEM STORY, by Elizabeth Downing.

Told through the eyes of a teenager, this thrilling and poignant tale from one of the darkest eras in American history details the life of Abigail Hobbs, a shy 15-year-old. As healthy girls become ill and whisperings of the devil fill the air, a family with whom Abigail is close becomes the center of new suspicions — and Abigail may be the only one who can save them. Today, we're spotlighting four of our favorite #Chanukah titles:

1. THE FIRST NIGHT OF CHANUKAH: It's the first night of Chanukah and David Schwartz is stranded in the Devil's Lake, North Dakota airport. As he bemoans his fate of being "the only Jew who's ever been in North Dakota," a mysterious stranger named Morris Rosenberg appears with a menorah that he asks David to help him light. Although David protests that his cigarette lighter is empty, Morris proves that through the power of faith, miracles do happen. This play draws on historical research about Jewish homesteaders in North Dakota during the turn of the century.

2. HOLIDAY SHMOLIDAY: Samson is forced to find a "cool" Chanukah song for his choir to sing or else the school bully will beat him up. At first, Samson is reluctant to celebrate his Jewish roots, but with a surprise visit from a magical Dreidel Man, he goes on a journey exploring other cultures' celebrations of the holidays. Through his travels, and with the help of his pet fish, Gefilte, Samson gains self-confidence and finds a new respect for his heritage. He finally returns home, equipped with an original holiday song, and faces the choir bully.

3. COME LIGHT THE MENORAH: On Chanukah, an observant woman learns her sister is a le***an — and dating a shikse.

4. RABBI HERSH AND THE TALKING LOBSTER: A giant lobster decides to convert to Judaism, and visits a lonely Rabbi on Chanukah.

These festive plays are a whole LATKE fun! Browse our full Chanukah collection here → bit.ly/PSChanukah

In Stephen Gregg's TRAP, an incomprehensible event takes place in a high school theater: every person in the audience falls unconscious — every person but one. Using interviews with witnesses, loved ones, first responders, and investigators, a theatre ensemble brings the story of the strange event to life, documentary-style. But as the strands weave together into an increasingly dangerous web, it becomes clear that this phenomenon might not be entirely in the past...

When her husband dies, Bernarda Alba seeks to protect her four daughters the only way she knows how: by confining them all to their family ranch for eight years of mourning. But where the fierce matriarch sees a shelter from the men circling their fortune like wolves, her daughters see a prison, and the only way out is marriage.

This taut and lyrical adaptation of THE HOUSE OF BERNARD ALBA brings Federico Garcia Lorca's classic parable of women and power to life in a rush of fans and castanets.

Today, we're continuing our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting CALIFORNIA SCENARIOS, a collection of short plays following Latino characters in California.

From a group of women waiting in the night to be swept away by their bandit-boyfriend, to a young monk who finds introspection in the form of a skeleton, these plays are rich in history, fantasy, and triumph. Inspired by Isamu Noguchi's sculpture garden "California Scenario," each play reveals a complex view of the California landscape as it has never been seen before.

I've been waiting 6 weeks to receive the play I ordered. I have requested a pdf of it and no response. This is very disappointing. Wouldn't use this again or suggest to my teaching colleagues to use it as it has let my class down. Can someone please send me the pdf? Or confirm when the play will arrive?

Looking for a serious play (tearjerker) that could run 30-45 min for eight high school students.
I don't understand why Playscripts can't issue a refund for a cancelled show to the credit card used to purchase the rights. It should be simple - go through the credit card processor. They offered me a credit (as if I might go through them again now) or a check in 3 months. NOT customer-friendly. Anyone that takes credit cards should be able to issue a refund to that card. I'm filing a dispute with my credit card company.

Hello! I'm not sure exactly how to go about this, but I wanted to share a roadblock that I have come up against and ask for your advice, help, and support. I am trying to produce A NIGHT OF ONE ACTS at the high school where I teach. My students are interested in titles found on Playscripts.com. We recently had a successful, virtual production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead using ON THE STAGE. OTS uses a secure streaming platform and our audience members purchased unique access codes that could not be shared to view the recorded livestream broadcast. Playscripts.com has notes on several of their scripts that titles may only be streamed using Broadway On Demand. My school is very slow moving (to the point of almost being backward) when it comes to any kind of online ticketing or internet purchases. Because our production in Dec. HAD to be virtual, my principal helped me to kind of force the hand of the Dist. business office to allow us to use ON THE STAGE. I am pretty positive I will not be able to convince the powers that be to also have a relationship with Broadway on Demand. In addition, I think the exclusivity between Playscripts.com and Broadway On Demand is going to prevent many groups from being able to produce work. In a back and forth email between myself and OTS, I have discovered that MTI also has an exclusivity agreement with a company other than OTS. The Choir Teacher at my school is looking at musicals for Fall 2021, and I know MTI will have many of the titles she would like to peruse. So far OTS has been pretty great to work with. Their prices are reasonable and they aren't selling the email addresses of our audience members to outside organizations (causing our patrons to get a bunch of spam and other emails about things they are not interested in.) I do not want to break our relationship with OTS ... AND ... I want to be able to safely and legally live stream theatre.
I have been trying to get in touch with my rep since November! What is going on here? No one answers phones? Nobody answers emails? I need help!! Just because you are working at home I don't think emails should go 3 months without a response!!!! Please help all of us struggling with your company and the streaming company!
Waiting for refunds for scripts since APRIL. All we get told is they are “busy” sending out cheques. Senior managenent won’t reply. Does anyone know how to get through to these people??
Love you Andrew
We would like to announce the grand winners of our company’s inaugural Spring Emerging Playwrights Contest today. Lia Romeo (Full-Length), David John Preece (One-Acts) and R.A. Pauli(Short Plays) received top nods for their scripts from nearly 800 entries from the United States and abroad. The Facebook-announced contest called for playwrights to submit their scripts in one of three categories: full-lengths, one-acts, and short plays, with a caveat that their works were unproduced. The winning scripts were selected by an esteemed panel of 65 judges representing various aspects of the theatre community. Contest grand prizes include subscriptions to Play Submissions Helper and BroadwayHD, a conference with Tony® Award Producer Tracey Knight Narang (Oklahoma), and cash awards, plus a certificate of recognition. Our esteemed panel of 65 judges* volunteered their time and experience to review the scripts and rate each one with constructive comments. The panel was comprised of theatre professionals representing many aspects of the theatre community including directors, writers, actors, producers, theatre reviewers, professors, dramaturgs, Tony Award winners, Broadway, Off-Broadway and cabaret. For the complete list of judges visit: https://www.miuprod.com/PANEL-OF-JUDGES/ Mixing It Up Productions strongly believes in inclusion. While grand winners will receive certificates of recognition, all playwright contest entrants will receive a document of acknowledgment and membership to our company's Playwrights Forum, offering further submission opportunities, seminars, workshops, events, and connections. Look for our next program, Script to Stage, beginning this fall. and is designed for playwrights to work on the development of their plays with theatre professionals, culminating in a staged reading. The immersive experience, initially designed pre-pandemic, will be conducted virtually through Zoom and other virtual setups.
One comedy short, one 4 character musical put us on the map. Read all about it!
Good morning community. I am a Hollywood screenwriter who switched gears and just finished my first stage play written for (and music written by) Anton Xavier Clifford and Jeffrey Marshall (pictured below). It's entitled "A Paralyzing Mistake." A slapstick romantic comedy/musical with dramatic elements. A beautiful multi-racial mix of disabled and able-bodied actors based on the following... Logline: The ultimate fight between good (God) and evil (Devil) ensues when a computer glitch in Heaven leaves a world-famous rapper (scheduled to die in the accident) a quadriplegic. I'm looking for feedback, virtual table read and/or theatre groups willing to take on a groundbreaking project like this... please contact me here of 310 614 8708. Thank you!
