From to , local media has been on the front lines ready to inform their readers. Today, the Local Media Consortium and the Local Media Foundation, in partnership with Google News Initiative, announced the launch of the "Support Local News" ad campaign.
Backed by $15 million in funding from Google, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the need and importance of funding newsrooms through subscriptions, donations and advertising. According to Poynter, 30+ local newsrooms have closed since the beginning of the pandemic.
Some of the newsrooms getting an ad buy include major metros like The Dallas Morning News, the Star Tribune, the Tampa Bay Times and the Los Angeles Times. As well as local radio, digital, TV & Spanish-language newspapers including La Raza Chicago,Mundo Hispánico and Hola News Charlotte.
