Your Vote Means Just As Much As The Paper You wipe Your butt With! Its all about controlling you
George Washington didn’t speak up much at the Constitutional Convention when it came to the Executive Branch, since he didn’t want to be seen as angling for the job of being the first President. But the Founders who gathered there were in general agreement that the people should not directly elect the President. Half the population was illiterate or nearly so, and they feared the people would easily be misled by slick-talking demagogues (or reality TV stars). So they came up with the idea of having a body of electors - wise, experienced public servants chosen by the states - choose the President and Vice President.
