Five years ago today, Sandra Bland died while in custody after she had been unlawfully stopped and arrested. Like too many other Black women, her life was cut short by state violence.
Today, we remember Sandra Bland as an outspoken change agent for social justice and equality. Saying her name is important because Black women and girls are also affected by police violence.

In 1972, using donated equipment from the Model Cities Program, Dr. Mary Umolu was awarded a grant to establish Medgar Evers College Radio, which began to broadcast over WNYE 91.5 FM reaching the tri-state area.
From that point on, Dr. Umolu dedicated her time and
unrelenting energy to transform the fledgling radio station into its current state as a successful communications vehicle for the students of the college, the Central Brooklyn Community, and beyond.
Some of the most notable Deejays who have gotten their start from this radio station are Lenny Greene of 107.5 WBLS and Barry Mason of Iheartradio.com.
WMEC Radio can be accessed anywhere in the world by going on to the world wide web, visiting wmecradio.com and clicking on listen live now.
The shows that play on wmecradio.com are educational based and provide a plethora of important information to our active listeners. We encourage you to listen and would like to extend our gratitude to all those who dedicate their time to tuning in.
