Teaching: It’s not business, it’s personal.

We give of ourselves in order to do a job, but ultimately to have an impact. That is what teaching with a heart on fire means to me, being driven by the moral imperative to make things better than they were. Great leaders rally others to a better future.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and affection, along with so many gifts 😭 I am humbled to have been part of the journey of ❤️ I am confident that it’s young people, it’s staff and wider school community will have better futures as a result of our efforts.

Gonna miss the young people, my colleagues, especially my team. Every stop I make, I make a new friend 🎶

A career in teaching according to Dave ☺️ featuring ResearchEd Bournemouth

My late formidable mother used to say that education is the key out of poverty.

I’ve seen that truth play out throughout my life—both personally and professionally. Education has the power to open doors, transform lives, and create opportunities where none seemed possible.

So grateful for the opportunities education has given me, and even more grateful to be in a position to pay it forward to the next generation of pupils and teachers.

That is a privilege I never take for granted.

Teaching is not for everybody 🤷🏾‍♂️ I believe that teaching is a vocation. A calling ✨ Like you were born to do it. I am not talking about an unhealthy relationship with work or a lack of work-life balance ❌ I just think that it is connected with your purpose. It is a moral imperative that motivates great teachers to teach like their heart is on fire 🔥 🌱

I am delighted to invite colleagues, friends, and fellow educators to the online launch of Teach Like Your Heart Is on Fire.

The event will explore the themes at the heart of the book such as purpose, leadership, and excellence in teaching. I am especially pleased that the conversation will be hosted by Hilary Adli, Programme Director for Teachers and Leadership Development at UCL Institute of Education Centre for Educational Leadership.

Alongside a panel of guests from across education, we will discuss the experiences and ideas that shaped the book and consider what it takes to sustain passion and purpose in today’s educational landscape.

Teach Like Your Heart is on Fire is currently number 7 in the Amazon Top 100 Bestsellers for Teacher Training 🔥 Gassed doesn’t even begin to capture how I feel 🥹 I firmly believe teachers because like the song says:

🎶 When a child is born into this world
It has no concept of the tone of skin it’s living in 🎶

In other words, young people need guidance. They need the adults in their lives to help them navigate through life, develop a healthy worldview, discover their giftedness and how it connects to their purpose.

Of course, parents and carers have the primary role in this, but I would say teachers are a close second. That’s why we need educators who teach like their hearts are on fire 🔥 🌱

Oh, am I talkin’ too loud? Sometimes I get over excited, shoot off at the mouth. I’ve never published a book before. I promise that I’ll make y’all proud 🥹

The ranks will change, I know. I am the one thing in life I can control, so I’m not throwing away my shot. If this book helps one person, that would be enough ❤️

Shoutout to Spiderman 🕷️ Not just because I use him to introduce the first chapter of Teach Like Your Hair is on Fire 🔥 but also because like him I have never been this high before 🙀

TLYHIOF is currently 13 in Amazon’s Top 100 Bestsellers for Teacher Training 🤯🤯🤯 I have been blown away by the support from people I know and people I don’t, people I have taught alongside and people I may never meet.

My hope and prayer is that this book would make some small contribution to improving the life chances of some young person out there in Mitcham or Manchester or Malaysia because they had a teacher who understood the brief and taught like their ❤️ was on 🔥.
