I've seen 'Les Misérables' half a dozen times and wore out the cast album on cassette back in the 80s, so I thought I knew Jean Valjean pretty well. Two very different productions this year proved me wrong, and it was the smaller one, on a hillside at Hudson Valley Shakespeare that changed how I hear the whole show.
