When an aircraft vibrates, it creates tiny, repetitive movements that can affect every part of the plane, including its fasteners like bolts and screws.\n\nIf a fastener isn’t properly torqued - meaning it’s not tightened to the correct specification these vibrations can cause it to loosen over time.\n\nThe vibrations act like a persistent force, nudging the fastener back and forth slightly, which reduces the friction that normally holds it securely in place.\n\nAs the fastener becomes looser, it may no longer hold the components together as intended, leading to potential malfunctions or failures. This is especially dangerous in an aircraft, where even a small loose part can lead to significant safety risks. Ensuring that fasteners are correctly torqued and reducing vibrations are therefore essential steps in preventing mechanical failures.
