When Mike Tyson Became the Youngest Heavyweigh Champion

On November 22, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the young sensation of the heavyweight division, 20-year-old Mike Tyson, who had made his professional debut just over 1.5 years ago, stepped into the ring to fight for the world championship title. Tyson had 27 wins, 25 of them by knockout, 15 of which were in the first round, and no losses. The fight was for the WBC title, which was held by 32-year-old Trevor Berbick, for whom this defense was the first since winning the title in March 1986. Berbick won the WBC world heavyweight title by upsetting Pinklon Thomas with a unanimous decision. In the boxing world, Berbick became known five years earlier, when he became the last opponent in Muhammad Ali's career. Berbick had 31 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw.

Foreman Destroyed Norton, Then Caracas Wouldn’t Let Him Leave😱
George Foreman’s heavyweight title defense against Ken Norton on March 26, 1974, carried far more intrigue before the opening bell than the two rounds of boxing ultimately provided.
The challenger had proven himself against Muhammad Ali, breaking Ali’s jaw during their first fight in March 1973 before losing a close rematch six months later. That success created the central question in Caracas, Venezuela: could awkward movement and physical strength work against a champion who presented an entirely different problem?
Foreman had destroyed Joe Frazier in two rounds to become heavyweight champion and stopped José Roman in the first round of his initial defense. His record had reached 39-0 with 36 knockouts, making Norton approximately a 3-1 underdog. Ali, working at ringside, gave the challenger a better chance than most. Having survived 24 rounds against him, Ali questioned the assumption that Foreman would simply run through a fighter who had caused him so much difficulty.

🥊 HISTORY IN THE MAKING: Tyson vs. Berbick

November 22, 1986. The night "Iron" Mike Tyson changed the face of boxing forever. 🌟

At just 20 years and 4 months old, Tyson walked into the Las Vegas Hilton to challenge Trevor Berbick for the WBC Heavyweight Title. Berbick was a seasoned champion, the man who had retired Muhammad Ali, but he had never faced a force like "Kid Dynamite."

From the opening bell, Tyson was a whirlwind of destruction. He didn't just want the belt; he wanted to make a statement. In the 2nd round, a devastating left hook landed on Berbick’s temple, and the result became one of the most famous images in sports history. 📸💥

Berbick tried to stand, but his legs had turned to jelly. He collapsed, tried to rise, stumbled across the ring, and fell again. It was a total system failure caused by raw, terrifying power. The referee, Mills Lane, had seen enough and waved it off.
